unlock galaxy s3 (rogers)
I have this galaxy s3 from rogers.
currently it has a SIM card from chatr wireless with a voice only plan.
I have the unlock code.
Do I need to put a different SIM card or can I unlock it with the chatr SIM card inside?
the video instruction isn't clear about the SIM card

thx.

IGNORE THE DOOR!
When the doorbell rings, it is an invitation to answer it. You are not a dog, it is not a command. Just an invitation. You are not in church, you are at home. No guilt.

You can unlock using existing SIM card.
A SIM card from a different carrier would be handy to verify if the unlock was successful.
I'm not an Android user, so not sure if there is a menu/screen that you can verify that the phone is unlocked without using a different SIM card.

So I will proceed on unlocking it with the chatr SIM card...

this command isn't working on my galaxy s3:
#7465625*638*#
I dial it and it says "USSD Code Running" and after one or two seconds it says: "Connection problem or invalid MMI code".
What's wrong? I have the unlock code ready...
Note: *#06# works fine, it shows the IMEI
Thx.

Use a non-Rogers/Chatr sim. Easiest possible way.

ok, got it.
There won't be a problem if I root the phone before unlocking it, right?

The above link doesn't answer my question: if rooting the phone will prevent me from unlocking it later.
Note: I understand that flashing a ROM will prevent me.

Can I try and unlock the phone without a SIM card?
Why aren't the commands being accepted with the current Chatr Wireless SIM card?

try
#0111*code#
or
#7465625*638*code#
or
#7465625*638*#
you don't need a sim card for the mentioned above service codes.

Those are the same commands from the video posted above.
None work.
I'm trying to remove the SIM card and see if they'll work without it.

If I use someone else's SIM card (from Bell for instance) to unlock my phone, could their account be blocked or cancelled?
Is there any risk?
