I've used the online company "gsm-software.com" many times.
Go here:
http://www.gsm-software.com/unlock/unlockmotorola.html
A relative has the same phone as you, and it can luckily be unlocked with punching in the subsidy code only. Newer Motorolas (and other makes) now require a much more complex process of flashing, using a cable, etc.
So go to that link up there, select V66 from the combo box. Then type in *#06# in your phone. It will display a long weird number. That's your IMEI number, which you type into the second box on that site (the textbox).
Pay up, provide a valid e-mail address, and they'll send you your subsidy code within 24-48 hours.
Trust me, it's no scam. I use that site all the time.
Sure, someone will come on RFD now and tell you how this guy and that guy in Pacific Mall or other place in the woods, can do it for $15, bla bla bla. But you can do this from the comfort of your own home, without anyone ******** around with your phone.
Price: $20 USD (equals $22 Canadian using today's rate)

UNLOCKED! please disregard Help: Cheapest way to unlock my Motorola v66.
UNLOCKED!
Hi,
How do I actualy have my Motorola v66 unlocked? Will this need a software and cable or can unlocking be done by just punching in some code just as you would for a Nokia phone?
Thanks.Last edited by alanbrenton; Jun 9th, 2006 at 09:41 AM.

before I go ahead with Oversized Rooster's suggestion, are there alternatives (like unlocking it on my own)?
thanks again Oversized Rooster, most would charge $30-40 to have a phone unlocked._______________

Hi, so I tried this website and it actually tells me that a cable will be needed to unlock this. Was it a v66 that your relative had unlocked? Thanks again.

WTF that's strange. My relative exactly has the V66. It's like the V60, but no external display. It's a little blue clamshell thing. I've also unlocked both a V60g and V60i on that site, just with the subsidy code.
Well I have a cable, and would have unlocked it for you for $20 (which is my cost in fact), but I'm on vacation.
You'd better post a unlocking request on the cell phone forum in order to get someone's attention now that you are requesting service._______________

you can do the same thing by downloading a program that gives you the code to unlock your phone. what program? i dunno, google it.
note that you only have three chances to do it or else it can only be unlocked by cable.

Are you sure about the v66 model? A friend of mine back in the far east confirmed he needed cable to unlock this model. Do you own the same model?

There is also a place i'm pretty sure that unlocks phones at the Eaton centre.
Its kinda in front of Sketchers I think, closer to where Eatons was, and its a kiosk (one of the booths in the middle). Trust me, you'll notice it because they sell only the coolest and most modern cellphones there that can't be bought through the companies (Bell, Fido, Rogers, Telus).
don't know the prices, but tehy have a sign that says they unlock phones.

if you do get someone to unlock it let the rest of us know
I have the V60i, actually got the cable on ebay, dowloaded the drivers and used Universal Simlock Recover, the phone syncs up, I can modify time and java capabilities from the application but when I tried unlocking it said sonething about not able to support 8k or 16k phone (not sure).
Also naturally trying posting at HoFo about this
