[Update: got money back, no more PCF for me]... stupid PresChoice ATM's... $240 lost
UPDATE 2: I got back the second $240 debit memo a few months ago when i called them about the second debit from my account. I got it back a few days later after the call.. Within that time and recently I opened an account with RBC, and have been using them ever since with no complaints. After a month of opening the RBC account I went into my PCF account in preparation to close it, they gave back my initial $240!!! After a few months of not using the account, they gave me back my $240 wtihout letting me know, without notifying me they put it back, without apology etc etc etc.
The account is closed.
UPDATE 1: So on december 30th, they debited another $240 for no reason whatsoever.. i didnt deposit anything, they just took out $240. the transaction details were the same as the initial $240 debit memo. Anyway i called them, they put a note on my account. I got it back a few days ago (Dec12th). But the initial $240 is still under dispute. they said they investigated it twice, and both times they counted $480 (when i deposited $720).
Any ideas as to what i should do now? i am going to write to the BBB with an account of what happened, CC a copy to PCF, as per my dad's suggestions. Any ideas?
Hello RBC, id rather pay $3.50 a month than to go through with PCF's crap again.
So i opened up a PC bank account on the 30th, and had deposited quite a large sum of cash from my old chequing account to the PC one.
Anyway, last night (Dec1st) i notice there is a $240 debit on my account. What the hell right? I call them up this morning at 6am, they said that it turns out that whatever/whoever counted the cash in the deposit envelope counted $240 less than what was intended to be deposited!!! (IE i deposit $1000, but it was counted as $760, thus they subtract that extra $240).
Because it was cash, I have no proof that I did actually deposit the amount i deposited and not $240 less.
So they're investigating it by finidng the actual deposit envelope, and hopefully with the cash inside and confirm how much it was in there.
I told this story to my friend today, and SHE said same thing happened to her, $200 lost at PC ATM!!! Same story, and they didnt find ANYTHING in the deposit envelope...
Dammmnnnniiittt... I hate cheques... means i gotta stick with depositing it in CIBC machines...
*sigh* Im pretty much expecting my $240 to be gone... if i get it back, bonus, but my hopes are not high.

next time deposit little bit at a time to piss them off. ie 40 bucks then another 40 bucks until you deposit your entire amount.

Yikes. Hope that hasn't happened to me
Just wondering, if you didnt deposit at a CIBC ATM, which kind of ATM did you deposit at? Aren't they all owned by CIBC? Or are the CIBC ones more reliable?

Yeah apparently so (CIBC being more reliable)...
the Presidents choice ones are the small, portable-looking ones.. not the ones built into the wall...

that's why i don't make my move to the pc or ing...etc
i stick with branch thingy
scotia money master is the same idea
you could look at it, and it also has the branch to support it.

Well this is not an issue of whether they have a branch or not. Even if they do, you'll likely rather deposit at an ATM rather than to bother waiting in line for the teller during their inconvenient business hours. You have the option to use not only CIBC ATM's but also PCF ATM's as well.

I've been happy with my PC fin experience, but have had my "incidences".
any chance whoever was counting the money decided to pocket some?
that's the problem with cash.... traceability.
I've had problems with my old bank's (BMO) tellers too. All comes down to, when there's people involved, something is bound to happen.
Let me know if they pull through and correct the problem. Good to know that even when problems occur, they are there to fix or come to a satisfying conclusion, or not??....

It was my understanding that ATM envelopes were opened & counted in the presence of 2 employees, precisely to eliminate errors & theft.
It seems kind of fishy that both employees would miscount by exactly the same amount, but i hope it works out.

I never deposit cash into the ATM for the very reason you're complaining about. There just is no proof.

I like the REAL old fashioned way. My mattress. It can't be miscounted there.
