{UPDATE}help with car accident and quotes
My mother was involved in a minor car accident a couple of days ago, driving on a two lane road when a driver on the left lane changed lanes without check his blind spot and both cars ended up hitting each other. He admitted he was at fault and request that we dont go through insurance because it was his daughters car.
I have some free time so Im trying to get quotes to have everything fixed up. The car is a 2001 Chrysler Neon so first I called the dealership (I know their prices are expensive, but its just to base everything off of) and they want $1500 for everything which includes new lights, radiator, and fixing damage on the hood. Now Im wondering if I should even bother looking elsewhere, the other driver was completely at fault. The way I see it is if he wants a deal he should find his own mechanic, even then I would have to do some research and make sure the work will be done properly. Im thinking of possibly stopping by a collision centre across the street from my office after work and getting a quote from them aswell just to compare.
UPDATE: So as I was looking over the quotes I started to feel bad that the guy would be paying so much. So I removed some items from the quote to decrease the price for him. Gave him a call a few minutes ago and now he wants to go to his own mechanic even after I removed half of the body work that needs to be done. He said that his mechanic can do it for much cheaper so I told him to include the body damage aswell and he began to bring up the fact that I said it doesn't need to be done as if he wasnt responsible for it . Do I even bother going with him now or just send everything to insurance and let them deal with it.Last edited by demha88; Oct 2nd, 2008 at 07:59 PM.

You may want to have at least one more appraisal on hand. Usually ppl have 2 or 3 for comparison..but last word is yours man....

wherever you are going to get it done, your car value will be affected if you decide to sell / trade-in your vehicle in the future, thus you may want to ask for a little bit of money upfront now as a form of compensation for the accidentl.
