Just got down vote for a post from 2010 for saying that driving around and paying for parking would negate any savings found while chasing a good exchange rate.
Really looking back to July 2010 just to give a down vote???
Adding a limit as to how long you can vote down on a post is something we're looking into.
Thanks Tom.
What about the promise to do something that you made waaaay back in August? Clearly the abuse of down voting privileges is still going on.
Trust me I have not forgotten about down votes. We spent a good bit of time on bug fixes and other improvements after the initial release and then had to quickly go into holidays mode. For the past few weeks we've been back working on the forums so a lot of improvements will be coming out soon. There's a few smaller changes coming to voting next week and we'll finally be able to take a deeper look at more major improvements to the system.

I see many of my posts are randomly being downvoted. If people have such an issue that they are willing to downvote posts they should have the courage to make themselves known. Hopefully this change will be in the works.

Isn't that what this entire thread is all about??

I would never encourage or suggest that....says a guy that gets down votes for posts that are 5 and 6 years old :)

My downvote stalker is still striking with impunity at will every once in a while. What kind of a loser really goes to such trouble to look up posts and waste time actually opening them and downvoting? lol

OR eliminate the downvote option altogether. Look, it was fine with the "Thanks" system before (exactly like an upvote) but the sheeple crowd new gen reddit fanboys wanted RFD to be... just... like... THEM. Obviously it's a failure like the Clinton campaign.. promote policy to support a certain group of voters but forget about the key group that wuda won you the election. *welp*

Too late, the damage is done. Many prolific deal posters has already given up and stopped posting. I'm sure lots of new posters won't doing it again after getting ripped on because price was lower in 2009.

Can we move to something like Slickdeals uses? An up/downvote for threads and a "Rep" for users? Somebody may post a deal that sucks (downvote) but I can thank them for posting (rep). I believe members with more rep/posts also gave more "rep" when "repping" someone. This is a WAY better system and I enjoyed it when living in the states - it give me incentive to thank someone but I can still say a deal is bad.

I've noticed that people tend to gravitate towards down-voting a thread more so than individual posts. And seems like people commonly offset upvotes with downvotes, perhaps because they don't like seeing a post/thread with large upvote numbers?

Also, as an FYI, complaining about down votes will make the down voters go 100 times harder, unfortunately.

I think downvotes are really quite humourous TBH. I laugh at them whether it's me seeing other people get them, me getting them, or me giving them. The whole thing is just kind of fun IMO.

Making downvoters public and knowing who downvoted who/what is only going to lead to downvote wars and vendettas. In other words the fun aspect will be gone and then you'll have people just trolling people they "don't like" by repeatedly downvoting them (and the obligatory retailiation).

I think it's fine the way it is, it's more fun that way and def. more light-hearted. I actually have no idea why people want to take this stuff so seriously. I mean, "ohhh noes I got downvotes, never coming back to RFD again!" Or, "If I find out who downvoted me I will get them!" etc. Seriously guys take it easy. It's not like downvotes come out of your bank account or affect anything in reality, they're just little clicks on a website.
