Actually, that's a really hot deal. Basically, they're offering the academic pricing to the public at launch. Pro versions of Windows has some added bonuses too, if you're coming from a Home Edition.

$14.99 for the pro upgrade.
Thanks OP, this is a fantastic upgrade opportunity. I have 2, win 7 pro licences I can upgrade! But can you clarify that this is for any genuine vista/7/xp licence?_______________
I don't fail, I succeed at finding what doesn't work

Nope, not available yet. You can go to https://windowsupgradeoffer.com/en to register and they'll notify you when it is released.
My computer has ~8000 windows machines across North America and while it'll be a rough transition for users to Windows 8, from all testing, it'll be a worthwhile endeavour.
I've got it running on a couple of different tablets, as well as a couple of laptops and really enjoy the experience.

If I upgrade to Windows 8, will I be able to use my current Windows 7 license on another PC or Mac?

Good deal for some Vista users. I doubt many machines that came with XP will be able to run Win8 reasonably well. For Windows 7 users, I don't know if the limited extra features will even justify $40. At least this promo runs past the launch date, so we can see if it's worthwhile.

I'm 99% sure no. I can't imagine preview version licenses can be upgradedābeing free and all. They're supposed to expire in January, I think.
Upgrade licenses tend to invalidate the license for the previous product. At least they did going from Vista to Win7.
This computer's 6+ years old (with a few minor upgrades), and it's handling the Win8 Consumer Preview well:
Athlon 64 X2 4200+
1GB RAM
8600GT 256MB
Patriot Pyro SSD

I admit I chuckled, troll or not. It may not be far from the truth. Nobody knows how this is going to play out with the huge changes in store.
Back to the topic, thanks OP. I'll going to finally upgrade from my current Vista and maybe the XP machines.Last edited by EmperorOfCanada; Jul 4th, 2012 at 02:36 PM. Reason: removed deleted quotes

I am sorry but I tried a preview of Windows 8 don't remember which build, it was just awful. It was the most frustrating OS I ever used, I was literary banging my keyboard on the table because it made so so angry. That Metro ***** should be kept for tablets and phones not for a keyboard/mouse desktop. What's worse, Microsoft didn't warn that you can't uninstall, so i had to format my laptop and I lost the recovery sector... Long story short, from a guy who has long experience with computers, there is absolutely no way an average joe is going to tolerate this ***** , they barely got used to Windows task bar setup, this is going to be a complete shock. I just hope Microsoft gives us a switch option in which you can opt to have a taskbar setup without metro.
