Hi, I've just purchased Sony Vaio S series (VPCSB) online.
Can someone tell me if I can swap my 500gb hdd with this SSD on sale at NCIX?
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...r&promoid=1337
Btw, is this a good deal for an SSD?
Thanks!

Yes you can swap a HDD to SSD, does your laptop use SATA connection?
Get the Agility 3 instead IMO http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...y&promoid=1337_______________

Intel is more reliable but a lot more expensive.

I upgraded to ssd last year and i will never go back to regular hard drives again. The performance is way 100 times better than HDD. Like driving a Porshe vs Kia

There's nothing wrong with OCZ, they have quite arguably some of the fasted SSDs, people with bad experiences or faulty drives tend to be more vocal than those with positive experiences. I helped 2 friends pick OCZ SSDs and they're still going strong
Yeah it'll have no problem running an SSD._______________Heatware

Before you start looking at this years product lines you should make sure your laptop supports sata 3. If your laptop is only sata 2 you will be limited to approximately 300ishmb/sec

That's not really a problem. The power of a SSD is not in fast linear transfer times, but its ability to absolutely decimate a HDD in random access, ie: small blocks, the sort of access that is most frequent for a typical windows user.
Even if the laptop is 'only' SATA2 (which really isn't a meaningful limitation), it is still in one's best interests to buy a SATA3 SSD, just for future compatability.
A SSD you buy today may very well have enough of a lifespan to be put into your next desktop or laptop.

Well obv, people with no issues have nothing to say.

I just purchased the 60gb OCZ Solid3 from CC on sale for $99. Right from the moment I plugged it in I was getting issues. BIOS would post but nothing would progress beyond the splash screen. It would freeze in Windows while doing the simplest tasks. In 24 hours of owning it I had 4 kernel stack inflow errors. Took it back to CC and they didn't bother testing it, they just said pick out something new, preferably not one of the OCZ 3 series <-Their words, not mine.. Apparently they receive more OCZ SSD deffective drives then any other brand. I decided to go with a Corsair Force3 60gb instead, couldn't be happier.
Though several people in my gaming clan use OCZ SSD's with no issues (mostly Vertex2's), I'm highly advising people to stay away from them. NOTHING is more annoying then having to reinstall Windows due to faulty SSD's. Save yourself the gray hair and go Corsair, Mushkin, or Intel. My opinion at least..

No, you're not entitled to your own opinion, you're only entitled to what you can argue for.
Otherwise, don't start.

OCZ is a company who's primary means of income is scamming through rebate denial. If at the very onset a company is disingenuous with pricing, what hope is there that the product they sell is a good one?
I have had a totally sh*tty experience with their ssd, got screwed with the rebate, then the drive got screwed and lost alot of important work.
Supposing that they make their best effort to honor rebates and their product is reliable, it still does not excuse them from having a rebate for each and every product they sell. The purpose of a rebate is to pass savings directly to the customer for special promotions, this is to keep dealers happy as their margins are not effected by promotional pricing on the retail or wholesale side. OCZ uses the rebate as a scam pure and simple, supposing that they honor their reabtes, then there is fundamentally no difference between a permanent price drop vs running a rebate 24/7, indeed it is much more hassle to run a rebate program vs a permanent price drop, it take not imagination to understand why they elect to use a rebate 24/7 rather than give a permanent price drop._______________

I just did one, for $30, my rebate got approved but i never received it, apparently if it is more then $10 they send you a cheque and OCZ only gives you 90 days to follow up on the cheque. I waited more than 90 days to check on my rebate.
I just feel it is stupid to jump through all these hoops to get the advertised price. You can not find a product OCZ sells that does not have a rebate on it, they are totally abusing the rebate angle. There is probably 1 engineer in the whole company, the rest are lawyers or accountants. This company is the rogers/bell of hardware._______________

I wouldn't recommend going with the cheaper version of the ocz ssd. I have a co worker who went through 3 of them over a 6 month period and ended up getting an intel ssd.
