then you're gonna have to pay all those import fee and such when you want to keep it in canada for long terms.,..

When does a US license plate have to be converted to a Canadian plate? Is there a period where plates need not be changed if the lessor still lives in America but the car is lent out to be used here in Canada?

I'm actually making friends over at Slickdeals so that one can lend me one.

I drove around with DC (Maryland) plates for almost 3 months on my Volt, never had a problem with the popos, but they did ask when I was going to get Canadian plates, I just said whenever my boss gives it to me, I dunno :p


Though I'd suppose if there was an accident, at fault or not, the logistics behind that, insurance, etc. will be a major pain in the arse.

The American could, but they could get hassled if customs gets suspicious. There was some story last year about someone trying to do this and they got caught at the border.
