US Domestic Money Order
A client of mine has paid with Domestic MO instead of International (Pink) MO. Does anyone know if any institutions can cash US Domestic (Green) Money Order? CIBC said that as far as they know none of the banks accept these. Would anyone know?

Money Mart.
I've read many different reports from people cashing these in Canada. Some say their bank branch accepts them without issue, others say they can't get them cashed no matter what bank or branch they go to. I've even read reports where people successfully cashed them, only to have their bank reverse the funds from their account 1 month later because they are non-negotiable in Canada (the U.S. Justice Department asked Canadian banks to stop cashing these money orders in Canada)
Just go to money mart and pay their crazy fees. Or, send back the money order and tell them to send you the correct one.

I've never cashed anything at money mart before. As I understand it, they cash your cheques the same day, no holds. Maybe 20-30 minute wait.

Bring it down to a USPS office when you go down to the US?
Just don't expect the same sort of service you get from Canada Post.
I'll chime in and say that I really don't understand why they're not considered negotiable in Canada. I think every big Canadian bank has operations in the US, can't they cash them there? How is it different than any other US cheque they get?
Take a look at this: http://forums.ebay.ca/thread.jspa?th...=1226831557528
Here's a good quote: "The U.S. Postal Service officials said the time has come to clamp down by refusing to reimburse banks that cash the money orders, a move first telegraphed last April (2000) at a money laundering conference in Miami attended by several Canadian banking and law enforcement officials."
Gotta love it when they have a "briefing" for a bunch of Canadian bankers in MIAMI.
