Hi,
I tried to search for this question but comes up with nothing.
I'm planning to buy an item with us mail in rebate and got it shipped to a us address. I'll send the mail in rebate form from US as well.
I can pick up the cheque later on after they send it.
Would I be able to cash in the cheque here?

You can't "cash" the cheque (at least not with CIBC - I've tried) but you can certainly deposit it into your bank account. If it's a CDN$ account then you'll take a small hit on the currency conversion, but that's about it. I've deposited US$ cheques into my CDN$ account several times with no problems.

That's true for US cheques mailed to Canada, but I don't know what will happen if there is a US address is on the cheque.

depositing a US check issued from a US institution will take about a month to clear (ie/you can't use the funds until it is cleared, even though it shows up on your statement right away).
Because the check has to be sent to the US to process etc. So it will take longer compared to depositing a US check issued from a Canadian institution.

Some rebates are cheques inside tear away envelopes with the address printed outside, but I've also had a rebated mailed to me in an envelope with the clear window. My mailing address was printed on the cheque and positioned beneath the clear part (so they can mail it).
Now that I think of it, gov't cheques also have part of your address on it. What if what's printed doesn't match with what's on file? <- I don't know if that is the issue the OP is thinking about.
Like Topher says, just depositing it shouldn't be a problem. I've done it in the past with RBC
