[Bell] US: Tips for Grocery Savings at Reclaimed Freight Centers?CANADA?

Great deals here;

http://www.andersonsmarket.info/directory

Wonder if theres anything similar in Canada?

EDIT: via Lifehacker (http://lifehacker.com/5537407/buy-nonpe ... ht-centers)

Don't Buy Anything Refrigerated Or Frozen: No matter how enticing it might be to purchase 20lbs of Taco Bell Shredded Cheese (or in our case 50 pounds of "fresh" goat cheese for $5 last time we were in), or assorted meats in extreme bulk - just stay away. Just because a product is in a refrigerator or freezer now, doesn't mean it was kept in a controlled environment for its entire time spent on trucks, trains or other modes of transportation before ending up at the store.

u do know the food at the food bank is likely safer then the food at reclaimed freight center, most of the stuff end up there because they are damage, late, or AC failed in the truck and are not "sellable"

If dry or canned items are late it isn't a big deal on the safety side of things, if a pallet of cans get dented again still safe. You need to realize what a grocery store sees as "sellable" and what is safe are 2 different things. For example with many fruits only grade A make it to the grocery where as lesser grades often go to restaurants as they don't need to look good to be cooked with they only need to be of good quality (not that I recommend buying perishables at reclaimed freight locations). The same goes for dented cans or as you mentioned late orders. The idea is to use your senses in places like this and only purchase non-perishables which appear edible. A little common sense goes a long way as does a little understanding of how things work.

To top it off, often perishables from your local grocer may not even be "safe", the legal liability is all the same.

Ahh what's the big deal? If the cheese is bad, it will be moldy, otherwise I say it's fair game. Of course that much cheese will easily go bad on you in no time anyway, but hey at least it was cheap ;)

What's funny is, if you look at rule #2 from one of those links, it says:

"2. Don't Buy Dented Cans: No matter how good the deal is, the chance of botulism just isn't worth the risk. It's just best to stay clear!"
