This what I did, picked up my laptop, carried a used laptop bag with me...loaded the software and away I go. Did not even claim it.

Chances are you'd get hit with just gst/pst.
Now on a second note(you deem whether you want to use this or not): When Package express asks you for the value to declare for customs, you could tell them to put down as a refurbished laptop from dell for a lower value.
I am pretty sure there are no duties (I mean with the MP3 player, and SD cards, and video cards I've ordered from ebay, I would've racked up a lot of duty if they were taking into account all the made in china parts.)

parcel forwarding
LOVE IT MADDAWG !!! F**K Canada Customs and F**K the Canadian government for their oppresive taxes. I purchase TONS of items online and have them sent to a parcel receiver in Niagara Falls NY and just drive them back over the border. New shoes...not a problem..ear 'em back..new computer.. just throw it in the laptop bag...
Perhaps if items weren't >50% more expensive in this country, people wouldn't be motivated to "skirt the system"
Can't wait to hear from the bleeding-heart Canadians who feel that getting screwed by the government with overtaxation is somehow justified!

Dear Folks;
I've just started making weekly trips to the Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY UPS store to pick up Ebay packages and also to drop off ebay shipments. The USPS is a lot cheaper than Canada Post.
I always like to watch all the canadians in the parking lot ripping their boxes open and pulling expensive cameras and computers into their bags.
As far as I know most goods from the USA and Mexico are duty free due to the free trade agreement between Canada and those countries. Only imports from other countries will cost you duty. As you guys mentioned, gst and pst are payable though if you declare something. So far I've noticed they are pretty lax about inspections when you come through late saturday night.
Tomorrow I have to bring in the saxophone I bought on ebay for my dd for christmas. Im going to have fun getting that in my laptop bag. I'm going to have to say i,m a busker on my way to play in the subway.
Lastly, fawk that guy who charges you $3.50 to get back on the QEW
Best Regards
Adrian D

Hey,
I got my package shipped using UPS to Package Express and the tracking information has confirmed that it has been delivered at 11:43 A.M. (US Time? I have no idea what time zone that is) When will I expect to get an email from Package Express so I can get it forwarded?_______________

Package Express is at the Vancouver border not Niagara. I just got off the phone and got it fowarded right now. But the shipping price was pretty steep for a pair of headphones at 1lbs using USPS. I paid $20. Must be the size of the package...
Anyways, calling them was simple and I asked for a shipping quote on the spot. They told me that they would call back in 15 minutes for the quote after I asked them. Gave her my credit card number and got it shipped the same day._______________

After two weeks of waiting since it was shipped by Package Express, Canada Post is charging me on customs. Damn, This coming to be more expensive than I thought.
Stereo Headphone Black by Panasonic [Electronics] = Item Subtotal: $31.98 + Shipping & Handling: $7.97 = $39.95
Shipping from Package Express to Canada $20
Now Canada Post Customs $44?!
That's nearly as much as the product itself. I need help. How can I make the customs fee lower?!_______________

The problem is that I didn't tell the value of the package. They could have looked at the receipt of the package when it arrived from Amazon to them, but thats speculation. When I asked for a shipping quotation, I only gave them the package details (width. etc). Or could it be the wrong package?
Or could it be Canada's Post fault. I have no idea._______________
