I have just used the services of "The Letter Carrier" http://www.thelettercarrier.com based on the info in this thread, and have to say I am very impressed. They recieved the package, forwarded it via USPS(no brokerage fee) and put the appropriate customs tag on it, I gave them my VISA # for shipping charges and that was it. Didn't have to go there. Very good service if you absolutely require a US address, very cheap too.
Can you tell us how you arranged the USPS forwarding? I don't know if it is in the "Mail Forwarding" section from their webpage, but that link doesn't work.
Thanks for any info!

I simply called them and asked them to forward the package via USPS and gave them my Canadian address & credit card number. They asked me what the contents of the package were and the approx. value for Customs purposes and that was it. I believe for items over $50 US you will have to pay a $5.00 CDN brokerage fee to Canada Post + GST, however compared to UPS & Fedex this is much cheaper.

How much does it cost to fwd your package to Canada? I usually just go there to pick up and fill up on some cheaper gas.

Will I still get charged the customs fees and taxes for shipping with USPS? My last order from UPS was worth $160 us, and I got charged $70 in taxes...

The cost of recieving, forwarding, customs declaration, and taking my phone calls was approx. $6US + USPS shipping cost, they didn't send a bill and just billed my credit card so I am unsure of the exact amount as it shows in Canadian dollars on my credit card statement. USPS is the only way to ship if you don't want to get killed on brokerage or "handling" fees, anyone who's shipped with UPS knows what I am talking about.

then another $60 for UPS when it gets to your door hehe. damn brokerage fees
awhile back i got a PDA from a guy in the states. its retail value was about $600 USD. i paid $200. so $600 USD was about $1000CDN. UPS wanted $300 brokerage fee on it, which is nuts. so i got the guy to send an updated invoice saying it was a broken item and $50 value, then they wanted about $50 brokerage.

I'm not the one who supplied the info about Ryden's, but maybe this is it:
Ryden's Border Cafe/Phillips 66 & Convenience Store - Located three miles north of the monument on Highway 61. Go straight out of the stockade parking lot on Store Road. Take the right fork past the Trading Post to Highway 61. At Highway 61 turn right. Follow Highway 61 about five miles, look for Ryden's on your left. Phone: 218-475-2330

I don't think Ryden's forwards things they just hold it for you
till you pick them up (course you could always call them and ask)
If you're coming from Canada you just cross the bridge to the US
and after you go through customs there they are on the right hand
side. They couldn't be much closer.
Used to be a good place to go and get a Sunday beer before
they started serving alcohol in Ontario on Sunday.

I am really interested in the mail forwarding service by the
Letter Carrier. It is not mentioned on their website.
If they offer such service, why do people in vancouver sitll
go down there to pick up since you will have to pay tax and
duty back crossing the border? and according to previous posts,
using USPS can even evade duties.
there are two such services. letter carrier and TSB shipping ltd.
WHICH ONE is better?
Can I get a MIR by using the "street address" they give me?
thanks so much.

Well I FINALLY got a notice that my package arrived but of course, the mail man didnt ring my door bell just left the notice. So anyways I got charged $50 in taxes with USPS for $220 US, guess thats normal but last time for the same amount I got charged $70 with UPS and it came within a week. Also USPS= $30, UPS = $14... I think I woulda been better off with UPS.
