USA mail & parcel forwarding service?

I meant more for Canadian orders, but I'm looking for mail forwarding that is closer to Toronto so the shipping will cost less than having it shipped all the way from Washington.
I like PackageExpress' signup system and email notification when packages have been received, so I'm just looking for something similar in that service from a company closer to Toronto than Vancouver.

not sure exactly, even if its not that much less..the shipping time would be faster from a closer location.

For all the people that have sent items to The Letter Carrier in Point Roberts, basically you can just go over, pick up the parcel and come back within the same hour, right? It's my first time and I'm not sure how to do this.

What do you tell the customs officer on the way over? And you would just declare it on the way back?

If I was an Alberta resident (have Alberta driver's license), is there a way to pay just GST when going through the border. Or is it because I'm entering into BC, I still have to pay PST as well.

I'm planning on ordering a sofa set from US but they will charge me of additional $600 if I asked them to ship here in Canada that includes the duties. I'm planning on using Package Express and pick it up or ship here in Vancouver. The set that I'm ordering is Made in USA so I don't think I need to pay duties according to NAFTA.

I'm planning on ordering tomorrow because it's free shipping and no sales tax. Btw, the cost of the same set is more 1K here in Canada. What do you guys think?

It is not just the US billing address that is the issue - this 'wording' often means that they want a US credit card issued by a US bank.

A US billing address on a Canadian issued CC would not work in that case.

The authorization process used by some merchants will detect a non-US issued credit card, based on the issuing banks ID number on the CC - usually the first four or six digits of the CC number. That will stop the charge from being authorized by the US system.

The only way around this is get a US based CC from a US issuer - good luck! Without a US social security number, it would be *very* difficult to get a US based lender to extend you any type of credit.

iirc, there was another thread somewhere on RFD about this issue awhile back. Some folks had tried to get a pre-paid credit card as a way around this from one of the smaller US-based CC issuers, but ymmv.

with that said, i think you'd be surprised how many sites will be willing to deal with you if you call or email even though their sites aren't set up for CDN CC. Some might send a paypal invoice or get CC approval over the phone...

I wonder if an AmEx here counts as a US cc or not..
Or if an AmEx pre-paid here would work in the US...

I've been using PackageExpress but it's quite far. And since I go down to Seattle for some shopping every now and then, Bellingham is far more convenient as it's the town on the way to Seattle.

I haven't used thier forwarding service but I have read on a blog that forwarding service isn't thier forte

I went there once (at closetime) to pickup 2 boxes but that's about it

Just order items from redvsblue and had them shipped to canam. At least this way I can control brokerage fees. It was unlear how redvsblue shipped international and I don't think they were covered under NAFTA.

ok this may be a dumb question but why are we Cdns charged taxes/duties when buying online from US? WTF was NAFTA then?
