Check the BIOS. Make sure the USB ports are set to HiSpeed.

usb 2.0 not working on windows xp?
hi guys,
i've got this problem. i have a DFI ULtra-d nforce 4 motherboard...and when i plug my usb 2.0 devices into the comp...it says that usb 2.0 is not enabled but will be faster if it is...i have no clue how to enable it...i tried letting windows reinstall it by uninstalling the usb root hub...but that didn't work...i'm on XP SP2
thanks in advance! =)

check the usb controllers in device manager, you should see one labelled "enhanced". if not, you'll need to manually update the driver and select one that has enhanced in the name.

this might not be the problem but if you don't have SP1 or SP2, try getting those first

Do you have a USB 2.0 cable?
If you are using an older 1.1 cable I believe that if your system detects it's not capable of the higher speed it will lockup the port at the slower 1.1 setting.

I had the same problem at one point too.
I believe that someone already suggested what I did...you'll have to look in the device manager and when mine didn't work the USB controllers had the yellow exclaimation marks beside them.
Right click and install the drivers for the device I do believe.
