Using a canadian cell phone in USA

Hi,

Going to the USA for a week or so and would like to be able to use my cell while I'm there - only for texting and talking. Am using an older Motorola phone, don't know if it is locked or not but my guess is that it is locked. Would really appreciate any help on how to make this happen for the lowest cost. Thanks.

My understanding is the other way round. It's easy to find unlock codes/tricks for older phones.

how old is it? i have an older lg chocolate that doesnt even have a sim card in it - the battery is basically the sim card so make sure yours has one to begin with. not sure how much prepaid phones cost in the states but it may be cheaper to buy a 7/11 prepaid phone down there if they have a decent sale as they do up here and just use it. they have better plans for the money and i cant imagine the phones being more expensive - also some like 7/11 have 1 year expiry dates on any time you put on it so you can use it again if you travel within a year or just buy a new sim.

i'd see if you can check out us websites for prices.
Poor Grammar and being long winded don't fit well together, Oh well.

what I did was get my phone unlocked, then went to a mobilicity store which gave me unlimited talk text and data for $10 (free sim card promotion as well). The $10 was enough for 3 days.

Didn't know they give out free sim card but that's cool, I'll try that next time I'm down there.

Call your service provider and ask what would be the best deal . When I travel in the US and Europe I just call ahead let them know when and where I'm going .
I am with Bell now but Rogers had a similar deal .

Thanks but unfortunately that only works if you're on a monthly plan; doesn't work for prepaid.

Looks like I might have to pick up a prepaid there. Wonder if it will work here when I get back.

You might want to get a cheap prepaid phone while you're down there and unlock it for use up here.

Check out the website for ATT and T-Mobile for prices and devices.
