Using PetroCanada Duron diesel in Touareg gasoline engine

Hi, a friend gave me a couple jugs of the Duron 0W40 and he says it's good for cold weather below -35C.
I'm not sure if I can use it in a gasoline engine? I think the viscosity is ok for what the Touareg calls for (5w40) but I'm worried if the diesel oil is ok to use in gas engine?
I checked online and PC website says the 0W40 Duron is "suitable for use" for API SN but doesn't say it's approved. I don't know if that matters. The car is over 10 yrs and out of warranty but I still don't want to damage it lol
