UTM transfer?! help!!
Hi!! - i'm currently at utsg but i'm planning to transfer to UTM.
This is not so much as to do because I'm doing badly at UTSG, but based on what I've heard (which could be untrue), UTM is way less competitive and easier on one's GPA.
Anyone with any experience with this? Thanks

It's only September 19th, and you want to transfer already? If I were you, I would give St. George more of a chance.
As for which one is easier, it really depends on what program you are in but generally, it's UTM. Their classes aren't easier per se, but there are dumber people who go to UTM so it's easier to seem smart by comparison. By the way, I went to UTM quite a while ago, so it may be more competitive now but I sort of doubt it.

UTM is no different then UTSG besides the smaller class size
but of course it depends on the program.....I have met "dumb" people at both places and personally I found UTM to be more harder in terms of marks then UTSG. I would suggest you take some courses there first before you mkae the jump to see if it fits what you like

How do you come to such a conclusion?

like was said before it will ultimately depend on the program that dictates the course ease. but the marking schemes are relatively the same at st george and utm and at utsc for that matter. All science course are supposed to have class averages in the mid to low 60's, so dont expect any walk in the park while at utm. As to the level of competiton, due to the smaller class size i personlly feel that the competition is in fact more intense. because you know exactly who you are competing against, as opposed to competing against the crowd at utsg. so think carefully about wanting to come to utm, it is by no means easier, nor is it any harder, but there isnt as much course diversity as utsg.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree... sorta :P
UTSG has a larger student body for the common lifesci/artsy courses but acceptances are usually harder and as a result the 'average/median' student there is usually keener, more competitive, and more likely to do better when compared to any bulk average/median.
As for UTM/UTSC, I've 'heard' that the average/median student is about the same, but if an average UTSGer were to go there, they would now be 'above' average.
Just like how not every high school is seen similarly by Uni admissions reviewers, not every campus is the same.

Before you switch though, just know that if you're looking to go into research or med, the diversity of extra-curricular opportunities is generally a lot better at UTSG due to the many research facilties, hospitals, etc.. However, their 'availability' may again be the same just due to class sizes. I don't know for sure as engineering research ops are usually easy to come by :P

Thanks! - Ive looked at some of the course outlines - and they don't have as many quizzes etc throughout the duration of the course, it's mostly one or 2 midterms with a final exam ( this is includes chem classes that should have a lab component but don't)
Btw i'm not in the my 1st year - i only want to go to utm for a chem minor perhaps. ...thanks

Hmm...
a) You need a higher average to get into St. George. It's easier to get into UTM, and thus, dumber students have the option of going there.
b) I personally took courses on both campuses. There are just tons of hyper competitive students downtown.
c) The science courses that I took at UTM were a lot easier than what the equivalent would have been at St. George. For example, I was taking a genetics course at UTM while one of my best friends was taking the equivalent downtown. Comparing my class with hers, it was obvious that they covered a lot more material and their tests were way harder.
d) I took five courses at UTM, and in every single class, grades were bell-curved at least once because the class average was super low.
Like I said, things may be different now, but I sort of doubt it.

I kinda Disagree with you
A) More people prefer to go to St.George, or other universities compared to UTM, my last choice was to go to UTM, and so were all of my other freind's which some go and some don't go there. Meaning the Average at St.George Will be way harder to get into as many people are trying to get into that uni rather then boring Mississauga.
C) Its matters who your professor is basically, its like having Economics at UTM taking Baily or Cohen. There both Different Professor, teach differently etc.
But this is my 2 cent
