Go for it, it's fun, you will meet tons of people. If you don't live on rez, it's a great way to build a group of friends. They will most likely assign you with people in your program, so most likely you guys will have the same classes during the year.
However, you probably won't see that many people in your frosh group after the first year, and second year. The drop out rate is around 35% after 1st year, so be prepared.

I had a good time in first year, and I think they've made some improvements going forward (notably the significant price drop as people have seen this year!).
Half of my closest friends now are people I met at Orientation in first year, if that means anything
