It does not matter if you are helping your buddy or not parking on the fire route is a huge no no.A reg parking ticket you may not need to pay but this one you do.Originally Posted by RBK

UWO Parking Ticket
It says I parked on a fire route, which I did.
But I was helping my friend move furniture up to his room. This happened about a month ago, and the fine was $100. I ignored it cause I heard from everyone that you don't need to pay it if your not a student. So I didn't pay it, and now they send me a letter saying that I owe them $100, and if I don't pay this, they will sned it to the collection agency, and credit action will take place. Should I pay the ticket? Or just let it be? I'm just scared that it will screw up my credit rating.

There is a difference parking on a fire route blocks fire trucks etc from an area that is very close to the building. There is a reason for a fire route this is only for emerg to aid people in need.

firstly...NO CREDIT AGENCY IS INVOLVED, YOU CAN'T AFFECT SOMEONE'S CREDIT RATING WITH INFO YOU PULL FROM A PLATE

but the info from such a search is insufficient to affect the credit rating of the owner..
thus, it takes the SIN and DOB and slew of other info to tap somebody's credit rating which is why people need to stop spreading fear mongering propaganda about people's credit rating being affected from parking tickets and such.
anybody can hire a collections agency and run plates, but they cant affect your credit rating.

They were able to track my location down because they have my license plate number. The ticket is not issued by municipality. UWO parking office issued it to me. So I should be safe if I don't pay it?

this does not change the FACT that the ticket is no different from any other parking ticket. the offence just happens to be parking in the fire route instead of expried meter. IT IS STILL A PARKING TICKET.

Just mail them back a letter telling them not to waste their time as laws do not require you to pay it.

I agree with what you said. Here at Waterloo, no one pays their tickets if they don't have the car registered. People park at the plaza, get ticketed and don't pay, people park at RIM and don't pay (however, after the 1st time they tow) and people park at CIF and everywhere else and don't pay. Just make sure you don't accumulate too many or else they might get fierce. My roommate has 2 tickets from UW and 1 ticket from RIM outstanding hehe.

You know, you could simply appeal it. They're real asses over at parking, but they will review you appeal. Visitors normally have it waived. Better than a collections agency hounding you. One thing UWO is good at is collecting money.
