if you don't care about $$$ get the VAIO else the Toshiba. those two laptops have very similar specs. it comes down to looks vs. dollar.

If you are a form over function kinda guy, get a Vaio. Keep in mind that Sony support will bite ya in the arse if you have problems with the notebook.
Ever considered the Thinkpad X-Series?
Gaming? That's not possible on any ultra light notebook. Unless it's an 2d game.
Movie, go with a widescreen notebook. Don't get the X-Series.
Music, same with any notebook if you use headphones. However, some notebooks have really good speakers (rare on ultr portable ones though).
If you want a durable notebook with an excellent support (important for an ultra portable since you are going to carry it to everywhere) and if you type a lot, get a Thinkpad. If you watch DVDs on the go, get a Vaio or a Satellite.

Sony Vaio are way overpriced compared to other manufacturers. If looks is all you care about, by all means get a Vaio. The only thing Sony has going for it is a spiffy design. It falls short in everything else.

i was going to get a viao for untra portable but i grabbed an HP NC4000 instead because I found one for a good deal
pros :
-1gig ram
-64 meg video card
-1.6 ghz Pentium M
-Built in WIFI, IR, and sd card slot
-3.5 lbs
Cons :
-External cd/dvd drive
-Low quality speaker
-12" screen
-40 gig HDD (but 5400 rpm)
-Plastic case.
so as you can see, a vary nice system in a vary small package. It can probalby run some decent games too, consider the 64 meg video card and 1gig of ram. downsides - well, the external cd sucks because you cant take it places as easily to watch dvd's, and when you do, the battery wont last long enough for a full movie (probably, i havnt tried) but i just rip all the dvd's I like or dl them, so that doesnt bother me tooooo much - but then at 1 gig a movie, i can only hold so many with the small 40 gig HDD. small screen comes with a small package, it's to be expected so i'm not complaning again. and the speaker is good, but still it's not the same quality as a dual speaker set-up. Whatever, I just use headphones._______________
