Verifying gift card values

Planning to grab some bestbuy or futureshop gift cards off the BST forums

I have never purchased gift cards else where other than actual stores or malls, therefore, my question is how do you verify if the value on the card is as described by the seller?

the only way to do so is to ckeck the serial number on the back of the card...i highly doubt that anyone would give this away, as you could just use it online...you are just going to have to take the risk

I bought some HD gift cards before & I met with the seller at Home Depot & verified the GC's that way.

If it's for a decent amount, I'd insist the seller goes with you to the store to verify the balance.
