haha... i was actually trying to say that things in vancouver is expensive in general, not comparing the vietnamese subs.
i never had them in gva nor gta. i only had the vietnamese subs in chicago. sandwich, subs, etc is prolly one of the last thing i want to eat when travelling. on a separate note, i do want to try macau style pork chop sandwich.

ARe you sure it's not Habanero? Either case, they are both very hot and add a nice kick and goes a long way to add the authenticity of having a Viet sub. What is headcheese? That buur (mayonnaise)? You should really try a Viet sandwich made with the deep fried spring roll instead of the cold cuts; so delicious. Also the bbq pork similar to cha suey is excellent but these are more thin slices of pork.

Those are the two places I usually go to. I guess it's foolish to think we can keep on having $1 subs and still have kids play outside without worrying about pedos but that's another story.
I actually know someone who worked at one of the shops so I know how to make the pickled carrots/radish, pate and butter spread; it's just hard to get the right bread because the baguettes at the local grocers are too dense, for a lack of better word.

The subs that they sell at Banh Mi & Che Cali or Banh Mi Nguyen, what types of meat do they usually put in the spicy subs?

Had these a lil while ago, paid like $2.75+tax each I think at the plaza like place next to TNT supermarket. Barely had anything in it, can't say it's worth it there.

How do the viet subs compare to Subway/Mr. Sub? Are they a similar size with similar amounts of toppings? Are there any places in the north-west corner of the city where you can buy them?

Does anyone know what sauce they use when they grill the meat? I think they use the same stuff for chicken, beef, and pork. I get my subs from Ginger.

Had a spicy bbq pork yesterday at Banh Mi Ba Le (538 Dundas W). Very tasty. Really liked the toasty French baguette. You can ask for it with the pâté mayo instead of the regular if you want. I preferred the flavour of the pâté mayo.
Came to $2.90 inc. tax._______________
