Video Capture problem

I have an ATI AIW 9600 and an Audigy Sound card.

I want to transfer video tapes onto my PC and eventually author some DVD's.

The video comes across fine, but theres no audio.
Theres an audio cable that comes off the AIW master cable.

When I plug into LINE IN on the audigy, it sounds good, the levels look good.
I capture and play back, no audio.
Same with plugging into MIC - damn its loud there....so i make lots of adjustments, capture and play back, still no audio.

How can this be so difficult?
