Dude I want to try what you are smoking!Sixth sense was his weakest work, IMHO. Even signs was better (w/o the cheezy alien at the end, tho). I though the Village was definitely his strongest work, not having followed any rumours whatsoever
Surely you jest!
As for the movie.
It was not good
It was not bad either.
Not worth seeing in the theatre.
But worth a rental at blockbuster.

3 / 5
I guess most people were pissed because they went into the movie expecting to see one thing and saw something else.
I went in there with no real expectations so I was able to take it all in.
I never went into it with the expectation of seeing a horror/suspense flick.
I went to see an M. Night Shyamalan film and I wasn't dissappointed, if I wasn't cheap I would probably go back to see it, with a girl this time.
I would give it at least a 3 out of 5.Last edited by bmaz; Aug 3rd, 2004 at 01:08 AM.

I'm still standing by what I said about Sixth Sense. It's the only one of his films that I called the ending before the end of the movie. It's still very good, but perhaps because of the content I liked Signs better. The little kid, the question of fate, and the line "I am insane with anger!" all makes Signs better than Sixth Sense
*SPOILERS - DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN!*
I thought that the language in the Village was a bit stilted, but I think it's his best work primarily because of the ties to folklore - I don't think I can say too much without spoiling, but what really interested me was how Lucius was built up as the main character through the first part, but how Ivy took it over the responsibility in the latter half. Noah was *not* inbred - he was the first generation child in the Village, so I have no idea why he was insane, but his character was absolutely brilliant.
I liked the massive character development in this movie - in Sixth Sense, Bruce Willis goes from child psychologist to dead child psychologist, that's it. In Unbreakable, Bruce goes from superhero who doesn't know he's a hero to one who realises his own powers. Signs did it a bit better, with Mel Gibson's transformation throughout the movie, and his eventual rediscovery of God & fate at the end.
But the Village - look at Ivy! Man, talk about your transformation from innocent blind girl to "hero"! The relationship between Ivy and Lucius, how Lucius protects Ivy at first but their roles reverse when Lucius is hurt! Noah's transformation from village idiot to... what, stalker? Freak? William Hurt from stoic, kind leader to "cult" leader? In his previous three movies, the "reveal" didn't change a lot, but the reveal in the Village changed how I perceived *everything* - characters were changed from innocent to escapist, weak to strong, etc. etc. The whole question about the monsters, well, I called that as soon as I saw the locked boxes (in other words, for the wrong reason), but I totally didn't see the ending coming!
Best work. Sixth Sense was a straightforward ghost story with a twist at the end. Unbreakable was very interesting, but the characters didn't move very much. Signs was just a lot of fun, especially with Bo's contaminated water and the way that everything came together in the end. But the Village is quality, quality work. Feel free to disagree with me, but you have to admit that the characters in the Village were much more rounded than in his previous movies!
*END SPOILERS*

I enjoyed it... the acting was kinda terrible by most of the actors... I'm not sure if they were just trying to show otherworldliness by doing that, or if the acting was just actually that bad.
The main twist didn't surprise me too much. It did surprise the two people I was with to see it though. It was very enjoyable and sweet, too. More of a romance than a thriller, I felt._______________

Shyamalan is one of the most overrated one-hit-wonder (Sixth Sense..duh!) director I know..
next Steven Spilberg my #$@#% ass...
and to be honest, Sixth Sense was good mostly because the kid acts well.Last edited by geminiz; Aug 3rd, 2004 at 02:17 AM.

i found it boring and not the least bit scary. good twist at the end, but it could of been done a LOT better to make it a more enjoyable movie. there didnt seem to be much substance.
the acting wasnt very good either, except of course for ivy._______________
That's my 2cents worth

I just saw it tonight and I really liked it. It's a suspense filled love story with a nice plot twist at the end that I didn't really expect. It's something that wasn't really telegraphed (which I appreciated). It's also probably the only movie M. Knight has done that is even remotely plausible. If you were expecting a horror movie or a blood fest then it's unfortunate you didn't get your quota of gratuitous violence. Instead, you got a touching love story that you actually sat through and, in retrospect, you'll appreciate in the future.

Aug 6th, 2004 01:25 AM #30Ivy develops into a heroin because of her love for Lucious. If it were not for her love and her inability to live without Lucious she would not have had the passion to undertake the journey. But, what really got me was when Ivy started talking about how Lucious would always take her by the hand when they were young and how he suddenly stopped. Yet, whenever Ivy was in danger he was always there to take her by the hand and guide her to safety. There's a terrific moment in the film where everyone is scurrying for shelter and you see Ivy with her hand held out and it’s suddenly snatched by Lucious – almost as if she expected it. When everyone was panicking to find shelter, Lucious’s first priority was to find Ivy and put her life before his.
