Visa Gift Card

I was going to by my daughter a $50 Visa gift card at Safeway and when I looked on the back it said that there is a $4.95 activation charge and a $2.00 charge per month after 6 months. There were a couple of other things on there but I can't remember what it said. Am I reading this right, $4.95 just to activate the card? What a ripoff.

Typical of generalized gift cards that are not store specific.

Just give her a $50 bill.

yup, you get charged the $4.95 when you purchase the card.

The credit card company needs to make money also, it's not like there will be any interest charges or annual fee.

There're plenty of options when it comes to Visa/Master or AMEX card, see the listing here: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/prepaid- ... ds-532830/

cash is king

I was going to give her the Visa prepaid card to carry for emergency use. She's only 14 and does carry a few $$ of her own money. But for the $4.95 activation fee and $2.00/month service charge it's not worth it.

Maybe your bank can add your daughter as an authorized user for your CC account, but with a lower limit. The problem is how low of a limit is possible.

This never even crossed my mind, I'm going to call the bank and see what they say. Thanks for the suggestion.
