Vistek Camera sale: Canon 30d $999 - EOS 1DS Mark II $6,499
Vistek is having a sale on high end Canon cameras. These may be the discontinued models, which might explain the good prices.
I'm not sure if these are good deals or not, but this is the cheapest I have seen the Canon EOS 30D without having to deal with rebates:

They also have the Canon EOS 1DS Mark II on sale for $6,499 (regular $9,299):

Yah, that price for the 30d with 17-85 is pretty good. I had my kit PMed at Black's just before the 60 day price guarantee was up.

You have the wrong lens. 18-55 mm vs 17-85mm and Camera Canada is slightly cheaper for that kit too:

Nice price on the 1Ds. Even beats American prices from B&H. Very tempting.

Once in a while Vistek seems to offer us a wonder deal like this one, and the last one was obviously the version I Canon EF16-35mm f2.8L, which I acted quickly enough to take advantage of. Although the 1Ds markII is cheaper at Vistek, but after tax it is about the same as buying at B&H since NY only charges 8.25% sale tax. Our GST really sucks.

I got my 30D brand new for 850 a month ago....
1350 with 17-85 IS and I sold that for 500....
this is not a great deal...
also, the mark III can be had for 4500USD/CDN from BHphoto
less then 5000 shipped with taxes and there is no duty on cameras.

That's not exactly the same camera in spirit.
The 1Ds and 1D are targetted at different photographers. The 1D has fast 10 fps, great for actions and sports. The 1Ds has a fullframe sensor, for better imagine quality and low light performance. And I won't even go it the megapixel differences.
It depends on what you shoot; not to say you can't use either one to do both but each is design to be better at those specific tasks.

This price reduction is in anticipation of the 40D release which should be available soon if not already in Canada. The 40D MSRP is US(now CAD)$1299. The 40D is a significant step up from the 30D and IMHO is worth the extra couple of houndred bucks. Two more megapixels, ISO priority, ISO in viewfinder, antidust shaker, larger LCD, nicer menu, better ISO sensitivity, some cool options like a WIFI battery grip etc. etc. This is the first model since my 10D that I have considered upgrading to. the 40D incorporates all the features people wanted in their 10D. Some have been added to the 20D/30D but it's the 40D that has all the features 10D owners wished it had.
OTOH if you already had your heart set on the 30D and made the decision to buy it, a $400 discount is excellent and still a very good camera.
Cheers.
