Thanks so much for sharing. Was kicking myself for missing the sale back in June. So glad that it's back on again!

And same thing as the previous sale: VENNGO11917 also works for the reconditioned 5300. This time it's $110 off (i.e. $339.95 for the machine, before tax), plus free cookbook and free shipping.

My wife was looking at buying one of these recently. She wants a food processor really (rather than a mixer) but she heard you can do more with the vitamix, like hummus and the like so thought she could double up on this.

Anyone have any opinions around that? Is that a good idea? Is there a different product that would be better suited?

I suggest to wait for a sale for the explorian e320. It was $349.99 at Costco a few weeks ago. Comes with the 2.2 HP motor, low profile jug, & 7-year warranty.

Are these still behind the blendtec when it comes to crushing chia seeds, or did they improve?

Only issue i have heard and experienced with the e320 is the jar is wide based, which doesn't blend single serving items well enough.
I should have watched and read comparisons as there are a lot of them.

I got the e320. It's impossible to make single serving.

That's why i ordered this one, i will report back about the quality of refurb and single serving capabilities - even though tonnes of videos already show its infinitely better to do it with a narrow jar.
Costco one would be good if it came with the narrow jar.

I actually complained to vitamix direct. They advertise this as 3" blades. Didnt even fix the website after either

But they just told me to refund lol

For which model? costco e320 or refurb?
I think its function of the jar width more than blade, but i suppose blade is dependent on jar width so they both are proprotional. Wide jar bigger blade, narrow jar smaller blade.

Food processor does different things than blender.

Food processor:
- Shredding, slicing, fine chopping (blending) of solids, dough with dough plastic blade.

Blender:
- Blending, liquid and solids, solids to get creamy texture, make flour from rice and other grains and nuts, blend soups directly from raw ingredients and heat will cook it a bit.

Depending on what she needs it for, you wont be able to make coleslaw or slide tomatoes or onions with a blender.
