Hey do you think it's worth picking one of these up for $30? It will work as a slave for the RF-602's right?

Depends on the model. The vintage ones won't work with an RF-602 and could potentially fry your camera if you ever mounted it on it (or your RF-602). You need to find the ones with lower voltage.

6v or lower trigger voltage to be exact.

The Vivitar 285HV's are compatible with modern DSLR's.
The Vivitar 285 is not compatible.

The HV stands for High Voltage. LOL
