Volunteering in India
Has anyone ever done this? Who did you volunteer with?
Anyone have any suggestions or general advice on where I even begin looking? Google shows thousands of places.... I don't know where to start.
I'm looking to go for about a month. I'm of Indian origin... but I don't speak a word of any language other than english (well... a bit of french too), so I figure that will be a bit of a barrier. I'd rather be in a small group perhaps... with other international people... so I will have people to talk to.
I realize I don't have many specific questions... just looking for some advice...

dont know about volunteering, but i knew a girl that was on a student exchange program for 2 months in india. She told me as soon as she got off the plan, they asked for money, then got her working on some sort of farm milking goats 14 hrs a day, and then sleeping in the stable with the animals.

Try the Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto. They're a very reputable religious order in India and they have temples and charities all over the country. Website is http://toronto.baps.org/index.php

sounds like that episode of the Simpsons where Bart goes to France on exchange and does farm work all day/night then sleeps with the animals.
Edit: Just curious to the OP why you chose specifically India?
