VW Golf R or Mercedes A250

Hey everyone,

I'm torn between leasing the 2019 Golf R or 2019 Mercedes A250 4matic and would like to hear some opinions on these 2 cars. The price for both is pretty close after options. Thanks!

Golf R for you like performance, A250 if you want people to see you in a Merc or just want luxury.

A transverse Merc is just sad. It screams econo-box.

But the Golf has nothing to be ashamed of, that's it's roots. It's the benchmark for all other hot hatches.

you are giving up a whole bunch of power and handling for the style of the a250.

Why would you even cross shop between the two?
You want a real car or you want a badge?

If you're into Tech get the Merc, if you're more into performance get the R.

Unless you're willing to wait for the A35 early next year.

Well you're not really comparing apples to apples here but I would definitely go with the Golf R. Performance wise there's a difference of like 60 HP and the Golf R comes in manual.

Thanks for the response everyone. I really like the tech and interior on the Merc but I like the driving aspect of the Golf so I'm kinda stuck.

I'm also a little iffy on the reliability of VW. Have a couple of friends who owned one in the past and had to get things fixed pretty often. That was around 2015 or so. Not sure if it's gotten better.

Better to compare R when A35 comes out.

And good comparison for A250 is GTI priced way less with more optioned.

If you want now, get R for power or A250 for the badge and 1st year defects.

Serious?
You think the A250 will fair better?
