1) That article makes no mention that the millions Harper gave to the plant didn't happen. Do you have a source for that?
2) The article does state that most of the patents were from Americans. According to the excerpt from The Star they quote The Star never said otherwise. It did say that Cat "walking away with the company’s patents and technology" - which is true.
The plant was located in Canada which, again, is true. The plant is now closed and Cat owns all the patents from the company (regardless of where they came from).
The article from the G&M link above appears to be doing nothing more than twisting the facts to mount an attack on the Toronto Star.
If all papers do this (basically adopting the Sun News model of attacking the competition) then soon all the papers will be filled with "Na Ha!" articles attacking the competition instead of reporting their own stories they've uncovered.
I'm sure The Star could have a daily page devoted to twisting the facts to attack all of the establishment right wing media - perhaps they should if the G&M and Sun News are attacking them.Last edited by NG; Feb 12th, 2012 at 06:10 PM.

I read the Star and the National Post at times, I personally dispise Christie Blancford, I don't read her article, besides she looks like a witch. The Toronto Sun is the worst paper, a right wing rag paper.

1) Of course they will. That's like saying Candiens fans would disagree when someone says the Leafs are the best team. It's stating the obvious.
2) No links that proves proof (and not an op-ed piece like that G&M article) that Harper didn't give millions to that Cat plant only to have it close?
3) No reply about how that G&M article was basically building a straw man article to twist the facts of what The Star said and then attack them on what the G&M said they said?_______________There's no billing mistakes when you get your TV and phone for free!

In my grandparent's time the small retailers, yeah those guys with the general stores, were the richest people in small towns in rural Ontario. They charged their neighbours exorbitant prices for basic staples and lived well. Somebody smarter came along and ate their lunch. It happens.

The globe and mail isnt really right wing. I dont defend them all I did was post an article from them. When people make baseless claims against the Sun because they hate conservatives I will defend them.
You pretend to care about people, saying they should get living wages yet you oppose the oilsands which would have created many jobs.

1) The oil sands (along with the rest of the oil industry) in Alberta has caused our dollar to rise above parity which is one of the reasons mfg jobs in the east are being decimated. If we had a new National Energy Program type thing where Alberta paid back to the Ontario for how they're destroying their jobs that's one thing but they're not.
2) Your argument is the typical Sun News model (and now, apparently, the G&M) - you don't like their position so you find a way to attack them instead of defending your own position
3) No response for proof from independent sources that prove that Harper didn't give millions to Cat only to have them close the plant.
4) No response that the G&M article mangled what The Star was saying to misrepresent what they were saying simply to be able to attack them. Typical right wing Sun News tactics.
Since the right wing apparently isn't going to stop this sleazy way of mounting a debate hopefully The Star will devote pages in their paper to attacking the G&M and Sun News. That should even it out._______________There's no billing mistakes when you get your TV and phone for free!

Loblaws is not the only unionized retail store. There are many other unionized retailer locations in Canada. In fact, unionization used to be standard in the food retailer sector. In addition to the Loblaw Co. stores, Metro stores and Food Basics are unionized. Some Sobeys, Price Choppers, IGA are unionized. Grand & Toy stores are unionized. There are a variety of other unionized retail locations.

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.
