Awesome find, was looking for a cheap mini fridge, and the fact that these look cool is a big plus.

Just out of curiosity I looked up the general cost to power a mini fridge.
It costs $180 but could cost you $80 per year to run if the refrigerator temperature is set to the recommended 37 degrees (based on a national average of 11.8 cents per kilowatt hour). That's more than some 31 cubic foot models.

Depends on what you're aging.
If it's anything long like a strip or a rib, it probably won't fit unless you chop it in half or trim out a couple steaks from either end.

Height would be an issue too since the compressor takes up 1/4 of the interior.

Yeah, mini fridges are horrible in practice. The compressors kick in every few hours too, since theres not enough volume to hold the temp well(unless you load it full of water) so theres also a lot of inconsistent noise.

Did you even read the article? http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news ... /index.htm

That is for a 4.4 cubic foot fridge. This one is 1.7.
Assuming it's about 30 watts to run, and running for 24 hours a day, then it's ~262 kWh per year- which is ~$29 per year to run based on 11.2 cents average per kWh.

Just wanted to point out that a lot of cheapie mini fridges like this one have manual defrost. I find it faster to empty out and go at with a hair dryer to remove the ice whenever it needs defrosting

Good catch.
I just typed it in Google and went with the condensed answer as I wasn't looking for a specification calculation just an idea as I have a mini fridge downstairs.
Looking up other 1.7 cu fridges, they're at about 30 kWh/month or essentially $40 a year @ 11.2 cents. Of course it could be more or less depending on environmental conditions + the product itself.

can this be stored (while plugged in) in an enclosed space (ie. in a cabinet, or under a counter) or does it need to out in the open...??

My boss at Wal-Mart back in the day used to call RCA Real Crappy Appliances. If it's anything like Danby products, don't think this will last. My Danby bar fridge has lost the seals at only 4 years of age. That's pretty bad...
