Butter is sold by mass. Salt is almost free and it replaces expensive butter. So salted butter ought to be cheaper. I don't know if that explains the whole difference.

My Costco must be different in Guelph cause when I have checked the price it has been 3.99 or 3.69. Have never seen 2.88
