These LEGO/Duplo boxes have already been spotted on the floor at a few walmarts over the past week (with $49.xx signage)
Depending on location, the sale pricing may actually go into effect 1-2 days before the "official" sale start date.
I've bought countless flyer items on Thursdays, sometimes on Wednesdays for sales that should have started Friday.

Funny, I still have an unopened 1600 piece box that I haven't figured out what to do with it.
If you live near me and the price is right i would buy it from you (and its Lego Classic)

So my question is still: why not buy now in store and try to get the difference refunded on the 16th?

I suppose as long as you're willing to make 2 trips/wait in-line at CS no other reason not to if you want the sets.
For me personally, if it's a item that will likely sell-out fast (these will likely), I would do this.
Though, I'm passing on this sale, if you really want it and it's on the floor at your store now grab it ASAP then go back for adjustment.

They may not do the refund if stock is gone

99% chance they won't bother checking stock...they just go on autopilot and do the return, then scan again to repurchase at the sale price.
The only time this won't work is for seasonal items that go on sale after the fact like a Halloween costume or Christmas decorations.
I bought ice skates last year at Walmart. The week later they went on clearance. The size I bought was no longer in stock but I was refunded the difference all the same. I've done this with clothes for my kids as well a few times.
This is Walmart....not like staples or best buy...they don't check stock.

Just got six - thinking of cornering the market and buy every unit available at the 10-13 Walmart within 90 minutes drive of me in Ontario

120 per pallet x 10 Walmarts

1200 sell on amazon eBay plus - local classifieds

Resell for - $47.98

$20x$1200 = $33,576 + cb on cc

Who thinks this could work where I gain at the minimum $25k

Hah! Well, Amazon FBA fees would kill it even if it wasn't a restricted item.

If I could still down vote your post I think I would. =( Reading things like that around Christmas makes me sad and I really hope you are joking about attempting it.

Anyway doesn't make sense.
Sell for 47 dollars?
Lol he needs go minimum 20%off and probably still wouldn't sell any. Lots times there are 15% events and an additional 20%off as weekly deal.
I have a star wars set for sell on Kijiji for over 6 months now and still there.
Same other people try sell their stuff for years. And I'm talking with 20 or 30% off than reg price.

At 47 dollars he will keep all of them in his house for years

Good question. My daughter is 5 and she still plays duplo. But when she sees her older cousins playing lego, she follows along. My guess is 5-6 years old is when lego is more appealing?
