[Walmart] Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900-34, Core i7-7700K Gaming Processor $1198

Not sure if this is a GREAT deal but seems fairly fair for the specs:
Opinions?

- Intel Core i7-7700k
- 16GB DDR4
- 1TB HD + 128GB SSD
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 w/8GB GDDR5
- Windows 10

bad deal with outdated components.
change 7700k to 8600k (or even 9400f), 1070 to 2060. you will get similar performance with the same, if not less cost.

It's luke warm, OP. Luke warm. The right person might go for it.

Hey just curious on your thoughts as to why this is lukewarm since I just bought it

Let's say if you were to build a computer with similar specs wouldn't you actually splurge more money out compared to this $1200 desktop?

Don't desktops with 1060s go for around this price?

It's because replicating the build through parts at parity may be challenging. Thus, it's a deal. It's lukewarm because the pricing isn't quite hot enough to stir the loins.

Thank you for asking.

At what price would you consider this desktop to be a hot deal?

Which part would you wanted upgraded so that $1200 would be a deal?

Might consider to return it

Let's zero base this discussion.

Your purchase would provide a typical purchaser reasonable value for money. You're talking to extremely finicky buyers who look for the absolute best deals.

If the purchase suits your need, and you're looking for a system right now, you've done reasonably well.

Do I have an alternative right now that rivals this deal? No, not off the top of my head... and perhaps not for some time.

Lukewarm is neither bad nor excellent, it's better than average. This is what you've provided us here today.

I've seen 1060's desktop go around 1k mark for a while now, like this one here:
Legion Y520 desktop
and this one for $1045 after rebate:
MSI Trident 3

it's both 8th gen i5, but similar to 7th gen i7. anyways, these are similar deal to this walmart's deal, I agreed with what redflagdealsguy said, probably hard to build your own with this price, but all RFDers here are looking for lava hot deals lol

Be aware though, the MSI comes with 3g DDR version of 1060 card, 6g version is more expensive :)

yeah, agreed. that's why I was saying these 1k 1060s desktop are quite similar or comparable to OP's deal, so if 1060 3gb ones are around $250ish, and 1070 should be around $450, so right about $200 difference.

Yes, there is another thread about the laptop deal, where they also mentioned this desktop deal.
But that thread is almost entirely about the laptop. Actually some messages are so confusing that you cannot tell if they talk about the laptop orders or the desktop orders.
Only a few members, in that thread, talk about the desktop.

I think that OP did a good thing by creating this thread that is specific for the gaming desktop deal.
Thank you OP!

That thread is a mess. Probably 97% of the posts are about the laptop deal. And some posts are so ambiguous that you cannot tell what orders are they talking about: laptop order? desktop order? maybe they even don't know themselves.
I am grateful that OP created this separate thread dedicated to the desktop deal.

I personally think it's a good deal, and would have bought it if it had an equivalent AMD cpu instead. There are just so many vulnerability with intel CPUs (there's a new one called spoiler). Every patch also drops the performance.

- From what I was able to find by searching in Google, it seems that there is an M.2 connector on the motherboard of this desktop, and some people were able to add an SSD M.2 drive.
- Also, the hardware manual does not seem to mention that and it is not shown in the documentation found on line at Lenovo website.

- I saw a discussion about this, here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Des ... -p/3662783

- I am not sure if doing this one would void the warranty.
