For those wondering RCA is made by Curtis International. They are one of the shadiest businesses to deal with. My last employer got dinged for $40,000 after invoicing. With that said I have a Viewsonic made by them and using for 6 years. No issues yet.

I got the 55 inch rca from superstore like a year or two ago. Wouldn't buy another. It just looks shit and has the most uneven backlighting

Where are you getting the figures from(single digits failures)
Besides, the warranty will only cover repairs and replace if unrepairable. And be located in some god forsaken place. You will burn time and money to get this fixed.
Hey, just my opinion. If you're a student, great TV as you have a lot of time and little money. But there are other alternative options for a but more. I saw the Haier one at Costco for a but more, and with the 90 day return policy - seems like a better deal to me. My neighbor had an issue with his brand new Samsung($999) and he just carted it back to Costco. If it works well for 90 days, chances are it's going to hold up well for several years.
We all work with assumptions, so a researched one is better.

I will see if I can find my original source.
It appears extended 2 year warranty is available on this TV:Besides, the warranty will only cover repairs and replace if unrepairable. And be located in some god forsaken place. You will burn time and money to get this fixed.

I believe the black screen issue is motherboard related, maybe some component too hot.
I had technicolor tv had same problem being replaced motherboard. But panel maybe still ok, just buy a motherboard on ebay in case of out of warranty and failure

My perception of college education is from Hollywood. Lots of parties, games and some study in between. Other than that - a mere generalization.

So in your world, every student is poor and has no time?
Must be a pretty drab one. I've been in about 14 countries around the world, so I can speak with some real experience.
Ok, why am I arguing with random strangers on the Internet.
Good Night.

OLED is a whole different beast and has nothing to do with the PVR box support.
If you have a modern cellphone with an OLED screen then you'll already respect the technology. Each pixel is individually lit, no back light, no light bleed, blacks are black. Multiply the screen size by 7x and you have one amazing TV.

Why is OP so intent on hocking this TV off to young people and the elderly? "Oh they're young/old and don't know any better so just get them the biggest POS TV you can afford!"
Imagine this behemoth in a 10'x10' third bedroom.
And I'm sure the extended warranty is nice until they refuse to honour it ("we don't cover blah") or they do and you have to take it to their depot in the middle of nowhere, and then pick it up later.

Great find @redflagdealsguy for those who actually know what they want and what they are getting into, its a great daily burner with extended warranty.redflagdealsguy wrote: ↑ It appears extended 2 year warranty is available on this TV:

- Neither Haier nor Curtis make their own TVs, it was already confirmed beyond reasonable doubt that sets from both brands with matching specs are actually the same sets (just rebranded).
- Most quality control issues will manifest themselves within the retailer return period (30 days for WM) so if it passes stress testing one should be fine (most bad reviews are about units bad out of the box or failing shortly after purchase, you can see more of this pattern on the 175 reviews on WM US, 3.5 stars).
- Speaking of reviews, one mentioned it was $399 last BF (don't recall it being that low though, review might have been for the US price).
- Asurion is the same company providing extended warranty for Costco purchases, claim is usually painless, you get a repair ETA (cost is usually prohibitive) then they send you a gift card for what you paid for the TV. Just make sure it's actually applicable for the TV since you can't purchase covering online.
- Worst case scenario is to end up with the same Samsung panels inside the Haier (while not exactly a quality time TV but certainly good enough as a daily burner, OTA, kitchen, daytime. kids playroom etc).
- Costco seems to have lowered the Haier 65" to $500 as well (seems to be in store YMMV in the stores that still stock them for now).
- Only consider buying if you are ok with the possibility for hauling it back to a WM store for a return (you can do the return online but not sure who covers return shipping).
- The Pro Scan smart model (PLED6538UHDSM) will most likely have a higher end panel and is only $100 more (at WM and Visions). It is the same set as the RNSMU6536-B, RHOS651SM, and SLD65SU4KC. RNSMU6536 is the RCA branded version selling at at Staples ($800), LD ($900), PC-Canada ($784), The Brick ($800) and WM US ($550 USD).

Folks wondering, @aasoror is a wealth of information. I rely on him for serious panel roulette game play. There's a thread in his signature:
RCA/Haier/Avera/Fluid 49"/55"/65" UHD 4K TV Owners Thread
... dedicated to finding luxury panels in bargain basement relabels.

The Walmart near me sold out of this unit in hours.
Online store still has stock.
Where picture quality isn't mission critical, and you just want a large panel, this is a decent buy with the warranty I posted earlier.

If we spend the $50 on the extended warranty and they just refund you the $500 when the TV set dies on a giftcard, do we get money back for the warranty too?
