I can't believe Ubisoft! Their DRM used in games like Assassins Creed, which I own, rootkits your computer.

That post and website seems very esoteric to me but it seems the most 'harm' it does is install a browser plugin to track your web surfing habits? Fill me in, please.

You can't? I can. It's not shocking in the slightest to me.
There's a reason why UBI hasn't received a single thin penny of my money since their launch of their DRM platform.
But that hasn't stopped me from playing their titles.
Oh and I don't have to put up with their stupid DRM crap.
Congrats UBI! Not only have you actually physically LOST a sale due to DRM, you're now screwing the very people that actually give you money!
Said browser plugin allows malicious websites pretty much full access to your computer.
It's not a traditional browser plugin which just tracks your habits, logs various things and sends them off to a distant server somewhere for malicious purposes.
A rootkit is about as bad as you're going to get. Anyone that has access to it is basically "invisible" to the traditional checks and balances built into an OS.
It's basically like giving someone a poorly guarded tunnel directly into a bank vault.
All the traditional security is useless since anyone can just waltz into said tunnel and screw with the squishy innards.

According to TechReport, Ubisoft has patched the issue and an update to their DRM has been forced.
Still, I'm fuming at how boneheaded they've been with implementing their system that I can only wonder as to what other issues must remain.

No offense but PC gaming sucks. You have so many technical issues thanks to hackers ruining the game and game devs ramping up security and just causing a cr@pload of problems.
Console gaming is the way to go IMO. Nothing ever lags and hardware is cheap. The whole dedicated experience feels so much better. People always disagree with me on this but there are way better games on console then there is for PC IMO.

This isn't really surprising. Ubisoft couldn't get a PC port right if they had an unlimited budget and the assistance of every major PC developer on the planet. They always find a way to ***** it up.

This is why I boycott Ubisoft, EA, and all the other companies who try this crap. It's actually pretty easy to ignore their games once you realize that they haven't had a single original thought in years. All their games are just higher-priced, empty clones of what came before.

PC Gaming is much much better. You spend more on hardware, save more on games with Steam, and buy multiple copies of games on sale to trade them for more valuable games later when the sale ends. At the end of the day with all the money Steam saves you, you end up with a huge library and a beast machine. Ubisoft is Ubisoft. They're trying to make investors happy (Not that I agree with it). If you want to look at cheating VAC (especially in F2P games like TF2) works quite effectively, and there are cheaters on consoles too (as well as piracy, but that's a different story). I've had Steam for one year and I have over 264 games. I picked up the ID Super Pack for $50 during the sale, which worked out to like $2 per game. The way I look at it is that computer skills are life skills. They are becoming more and more relevant and are highly transferable.
Games that are quite good on PC and are exclusive:
PlanetSide2 - Massive Multiplayer FPS with battles that keep going when you log off.
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm - It's StarCraft.
WarCraft 3 - I still think it's better then StarCraft but StarCraft is great.
Torchlight II - Will be the true sequel to Diablo 3, no console versions announced yet.
Tribes: Ascend - Fast Paced F2P Shooter
Arma 2 - DayZ
Elder Scrolls Games - PC exclusive modding
Garrys Mod - Trouble In Terrorists town game mode and tons of modding
Fallout Games - PC exclusive modding
Non Aim Assisted shooting games - Mouse is superior for shooters
Flexibility - Plug a 360 controller for racing games or platformers? No Problem.
