Not only that, anything you do not declare, customs has the right to keep it. (that never happens, but why even risk it).
Guys we all take the chance of sneaking stuff back, cause that's just human nature to try to get away with not having to pay taxes. Just be smart about it.
Like someone mentioned before, you send a box back, customs will make sure that if they catch you next time with the watch, they'll hit you with taxes, they aren't stupid and could put two and two together. My friend is a Customs Agent so I know all the ins and outs of how they work.

I know I was lucky, but I didn't carry the whole package all at once, I was arriving with 6 other family/relatives with different addresses. I was carrying the watch in my cargo pants pocket, while my parent had the box, and my cousins had the warrant/certificate card. We all went to different immigration booth agents, each randomly pick a custom check out line. Such a relief that none of us got checked.

+1. Definitely not something I would contemplate to involve family members or friends...
Just think about if it's worth saving a few hundred dollars and have to get stopped every time and get searched when you drive through the border or fly. Pretty sure one's opinion will change once you get caught red handed.Last edited by mebiuspower; May 22nd, 2012 at 03:21 PM.

They only people who are going to notice your watch are others who are into watches. I can't think of a single time I've ever taken notice of someone's watch, and I've been around 54 years. On the other hand, I can't see getting out a phone every time I want to know what time it is...a good, cheap watch is still very useful. As for "status symbol and unique style" that just cracks me up. I'd rather go Mr T style and get me some gold chains.
There might be something to what you said about the watch being a store of value, and I'd consider buying one for that reason (as I did buying the silver coin from the Mint with the hunk of glass on it).

I'm dead serious. Watches are just jeweleries for men. I do have 2 watches that are 50 years old, one I wear to work everyday, they are very very dated indeed.

Well, let's say it this way....if you were to win a substantial lottery this week, you'd likely have a nicer watch next week, whereas you probably wouldn't have a nicer smartphone. Every teenager/student out there has one of the best smartphones money can buy. The same can't be said about watches. A drive-thru employee and a top Hollywood actor will likely have the same smartphone, but very unlikely they will have the same watch, or level of watch.

This part of the thread has got me thinking. I would bet that most people who are "into" watches would also seek quality or uniqueness in other areas of their life. I'd like to hear what other interests or hobbies everyone is into.
I have a feeling we'll see a lot of the following;
cars
home theatre
fine wines/beer/Scotches
quality shoes and/or clothing
fine food
photography
Perhaps I'm way off, but I'd like to hear anyhow
