The one I had installed for $1,100 is 42,000 grains. The company who manufactures the unit is here: http://www.excaliburwater.com/water_...chlorosoft.htm
The unit uses a quality grade resin. Other cheapo units may use a lower grade resin not softening water as well or last quite as long. Really a no brainer when the manufacturer backs the product with a 25 year warranty - they stand by their product and they are a local Barrie based manufacturer of water softeners.Last edited by Blitzo; Apr 14th, 2012 at 01:35 AM.

I'm in Toronto and have always felt like I needed a water softener. Thing is, I'm not really sure why. Someone maybhave shed a myth to me that it's needed for rural areas where water quality is different. Thanks OP for posting your deal with detail. We need more posts like this to draw a complete thread where others can benefit.

Installed
Peter drove all the way to Orillia to install my unit. I got the softener & reverse osmosis installed. I had a local quote for about $1700 for the softener alone. He uses the more expensive shark-bite system to do the plumbing. He also used better pex than what was installed in my house. He also got a stainless spigot for the RO to match my new faucet. He's a class act. The water is much softer now, my hardness was over 25 before, and was quickly ruining my dishwasher, hot water heater, washing machine, and shower heads. The unit also takes out the chlorine with a square foot of carbon so one less chemical to deal with in the water. Highly recommended. PM me if you have questions.

I just Contacted Peter to install the Water Softener and 5-stage Reverse Osmosis System. Great Price for $1100 for the Chor-a-soft. I also got the 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis System but was quoted $300 with HST and installed. I wonder if it's the same system. Feel free to mention my name Kirby Chan if you want the same prices.
Peter said I can pay by Cheque. Will update this Friday.
Thanks Blitzo for the Deal.Last edited by kirbychan; Dec 3rd, 2010 at 09:50 AM.

Im just wondering if the lifetime warranty includes the small electrical box with the display? I just had the culligan guy come inspect my water softener and to my luck the unit is completely dead when he came to check it. He also mentioned about their replacement unit that is for $1700 installed taxes in and also a lifetime warranty BUT the small electrical box with the display on it only comes with a 5 year warranty while the rest of the unit is lifetime warranty. Is this the same case with the excalibur?
Edit: called peter and confirmed that the head also comes with the lifetime warranty. He also said he had worked for culligan for 15 years when i mentioned about culligan's 5 year warranty only for the head.
OP you mentioned Culligan sells the same unit for $2300, can you tell me which unit is it under culligan? Whats the name?Last edited by azncapcom; Dec 13th, 2010 at 07:37 PM.

I just had the Excalibur Chloro-Soft installed today by Peter here in Kitchener.
I met him a couple of weeks ago when he came round to take a look at my old softener and found him to be a sound guy, with no pushy sales tactics at all.
My wife said he was very pleasant when he and his colleague did the install today.
Peter told me the reason why Culligan's have a 5 year is warranty is because of the number of moving parts in there. The Excalibur only has 3 (from what I remember)._______________

Peter came to our home in a north Toronto suburb (despite taking him 3 hours to get here) to install the Chlorosoft softener and 5 stage RO filter for $1400, installation included and taxes in, and I was provided with the warranty as well as a formal receipt. He replaced the softener and RO that I was renting from Culligan.
Install was well done and he left the area clean.
So far I'm very happy.

since you were renting the Culligan one, would that mean he just uninstalled it and left it there? I would think that Culligan would have to come and pick it up?
My question is i have a unit from culligan that is bought but it has stopped working, will peter take away the broken unit at no extra cost? I don't see why not as he may be even able to scrap it for a tiny bit of cash?
