Do your research before buying from companies who have only been around for a short while and make sure they will service your area. I have had issues with companies who claim to service my area but never return my phone calls. Their prices may be good, but they will screw you.

Saw this thread a couple weeks back and gave Peter at Water Work a call. As with others, he was very nice, helpful, and knew his stuff, and came over to Waterloo. He put in a 42,000 grain Excalibur unit with chlorine removal and pretty quickly sold us on a RO kit for another $300 (which for anyone who has priced them knows that's a pretty sweet deal). He went over the top by coming back a separate day to drill holes through the back of my cabinets so the ice maker (which wasn't hooked up since we moved in a couple years back) could be fed from the RO unit. Highly recommended -- great quality stuff and he definitely went above and beyond.

Mine was a rental unit from Culligan. I had called them to cancel (although I was no longer under contract, they required 30 days notice) and arranged for them to pick it up (no charge) the day after this new unit was installed. Peter put the Culligan equipment in the garage, and then Culligan came, I just need to open the garage, and they came and took it away.

thanks OP
Hubby called Peter today and mentioned Redflagdeal thread, deal is still on. Right away he quoted $1100 for the water softener and $300 for the RO. Both $1400 installed and tax in. He will come and install next week. He will accept a cheque after job is done and it will take 3.5 hours to install for both systems.
Will see how the workmanship is going to be. Will report back after he gets the job done.
Thanks Op.Last edited by pcbc168; Jan 13th, 2011 at 05:31 PM.

Peter just stopped by my house tonight and talked about installing the softener and an RO unit. Really nice guy! He mentioned there's a new RO unit coming out next month and suggested I wait for that and he'll come back then to install it for the same price as if I got the current unit installed with the softener ($300). After having a look around at the water lines, he suggested hooking the RO unit up to the water line that goes to our fridge. That way we don't have to drill a hole through our granite counter for a separate faucet and we'll get treated water and treated ice cubes from our fridge.

Excellent deal
Many thanks OP. Called Peter who was great to talk to on the phone; explained everything. Deal is still on. Install for both the softner and the RO, on a Sunday to accommodate our availability, is in eleven days. And since RO model is changing in mid February, Peter is willing to swap out the units when he returns on his second visit to check on operation of the softner and satisfaction. Great customer service so far!

Peter and his son Steve were here this morning and installed a Chlor-A-Soft unit. We had agreed on the phone on a price of $1100 taxes in and installed for a 42K unit. They were very cordial, did a good job and cleaned up after they were done. After, I went downstairs and was playing with the buttons on the unit, and gallons remaining came up as 740 or so, which is low for a 42K unit. I still had the box in the garage from the softener, checked the model number and it is in fact a 24K model. I'm sure it's just a mix up. I sent Peter an email letting him know of the mix up.

Peter & his son Steve came by and installed both systems for us. Peter is very knowledgeable of how the systems work and how the water line should run. They did an excellent job, highly recommended. Everything was all cleaned up after job done and answer all questions, we tested the soft water right away and it is SMOOTH...
Thank you Peter and Steve. Great customer service.Last edited by pcbc168; Jan 21st, 2011 at 05:43 PM.

I found this article very useful when I was looking for a water softener. It helps you determine the correct size of softener based on your water hardness and usage: http://www.aquatell.com/us/knowledge...water-softener

[Home] Water Softener - Chloro-soft Unit - $1,100 taxes in, Installed
Thank you, everyone for helping us to make up our decision to purchase this unit and the RO from Peter. Peter and his son, Steve, are courteous and good workers. They worked quietly and left our place clean and neat. We have no hesitation to recommend them to our friends. I tried the water, yes, it made my hands smooth instead of itchy. I am glad that I do not need hand cream after washing my hands.
