all the places at the plaza are good. the best thing to do though is cook your own meals.

Waterloo: Places to Eat Around Campus
I should know the places by now but I really don't. Living @ UWP and cooking there all the time. Didn't really find out where the good places are around here. I would want to figure this all out by next term when I get back 2A
. Very much my fault I know... Might as well post it while people will actually read it...
So any recommendations?
Please include details like:
* price range
* food quality
* healthy?
* hours of operation
* environment (noise, hygiene, etc)
* service

There is a plaza beside University of Waterloo that has East Side Mario, some Korean/Japanease Place, Vietnease, Chinease,Egyptian, Vegetarian, as well as a couple of pub's. One of the places in there has Bubble tea bar. I haven't been to any of the places just walked through the plaza a couple of times. Mel's Diner is in the next plaza over (with FUBAR) and I believe they serve breakfast stuff all day. That plaza also has a bar pizza nova and a couple of other things that I cannot recall.
At the corner of Columbia and Fischer Hallman is a Loblaws with hot food inside if you happen to be in the area during lunch. The plaza there also has a subworx (I thought it was over priced) and a pizza place that I cannot recall the company.
Closer to WLU On King beside the King St Res is Quiznos(they take the U of W student meal plan card thing), the plaza beside them in Pilot Pita (people rave about them), Noodle Hut (pretty good, decent price), a Korean place (prices are decent and the meal is filling, their eel maki is really good), New Orleans Pizza (smaller pizza than Pizza Pizza but good dough and sauce), Rain Tree cafe (haven't been there). Phils is also there, it is open late and it is a dirty club but has very cheap beers and girls, everyone loves it.
At the Corner of King and University is Pizza Pizza, Starbucks, another Pita place. One plaza North of that corner has another Bubble Tea bar as well as a korean.japanease sushi place. (Not food but if you re looking for a stuffed animal for someone Get Stuffed is there and has a lot of cute animals and the owner is super nice; also there is a anime dvd rental place that has magic/yugi oh card tournaments, no D&D as far as I know, nexus has that though). Across the street from that plaza is another with a more formal Chinease restauraunt, not sure if they do buffet sorry. And Morty's is there as well, a favourite pub but they have no free refills, not even on pop. Their wings are good.
There are a few more around WLU but they get further and further from U of W. here is a plaza at Westmount and something, not too far away with DQ, I can't recall what else is in there. Sorry I don't have ratings for most of the places but I don't eat out much. The Valu-Mart at Waterloo Town Centre usually has veggies that will spoil in about a weeks time for cheap on a tray, better selection the earlier in the day you go. I hope this helps somewhat.
Downtown has a Veggie Place, forget the name of building but it is green(Zen Garden I think), all veggie and healthy like. Cafe 1812 is in one of the Hotels is in the block with the Gold Crowd Brewery. There are about 5 or 6 different places to eat in the building. Cafe 1812 is quiet good for sipping tea and using wireless and playing scrabble. The basement is crowded and very lively. They have a patio above their parking called Barley Works, loud music, I think live performances every once in a while. Another floor of the building has some arcades and pool. There is another floor that I haven't been at, I think it is a bit more spaced out but I haven't been there.
There is a Mr Sub at King a little south of WLU, owner there is super nice and pretty funny. Across the ST. Marharaji (sp) Palace is Indian food I believe, haven't been in there but it seems more formal. Beside it is a Tim Horton's. Ethyl's Lounge is beside Mr. Sub and has a Taco Tuesday special. They also have a patio and seem to be a steak and taters place. I haven't been there. There are a bunch more places on King St south of here where it becomes downtown. A few bars, a few more formal, a few that seem to be just little holes in the wall. I think i am done naming off places that I can't possible review.

Actually as someone who really enjoys sushi and hates paying for sushi by the plates, I was really excited when Ye's Sushi opened up DT Kitchener as I believe it's KW's first AYCE sushi, and you know what, it's not bad at all. I went there twice in a week, never got sick and really enjoyed it.
Ye's sushi is a real good alternative to Seoul Seoul, Sakura Island (higher end sushi). But if you can't leave the area and are craving that sushi, Mr. Sushi by Mel's Diner and Wasabi (on campus UW) will give you a little something.
ALSO! For those that are in close proximaty to MC (Math building that looks like a stone prison), the Math C and D in there does have the cheapest food available on campus, 60 cent coffees, decent subs and pop at the proper pricing. But it's cash only.

Aug 10th, 2006 01:02 AM #5There's also a similar Engineering C&D in CPH (Carl Pollock Hall). In my day, it had less selection/variety than the Math one and I would guess it's still the same way.

I thought coffee was only 50cents? The barbeque rib sub is the best dell I think, and don't forget their 'great' soups they have everyday. ^_^

I'm so going to tell the owner i bumped his store...
In the plaza across from UWP, Phat Cat - its $5.75 (total tax incl) for 2 Gyros...delicious. You get 4 toppings for each. Just walk in and say 2 gyros. They know the rest, and then pick your toppings. It's like soup nazi, you dont order from the menu. And theyre quite filling and cheaper than eating anywhere else considering what you get.

Aug 11th, 2006 08:34 AM #12Oh man the owner is soup nazi for real. You come in you have to pronounce gyros right, my friend didn't know and said can I have to gyros and pronounced them 'jyros' and not 'gear-o' and the owner lectured how they were different blah blah blah and how he didn't have jyros only gear-o's that said, eating hot and fresh is great. I ordered fries from there, HUGE plate, i was glad I had a friend to share it with.

There's always Ben Thanh, near Conestoga Mall.
Or Leung Yue, Free rice and AYCE HotPot.

If you like pub food/appetizers (not sure if this is completely up to date):
Mondays: Morty's cheap wings, Molly's $3 burgers
Tuesdays: Molly's cheap wings, McGuiness's 1/2 priced late night appetizers
Wednesdays: ...
Thursdays: Morty's cheap wings
Fridays: McGuiness's Fajita Fridays
And I think every night after 9pm, there are 1/2 priced appetizers after 9pm at East Side Mario's.
Personally, I only like the Tuesday Molly's wing special. They have the best wings around campus!
And if you're looking for cheap and real Chinese take-out, Sunshine Express beside Mirage (across from Mel's Diner), is a good bet. I say take-out cuz most people can't stand eating there...it's kinda not-so-clean there. But $5 tax included (+ a pop) for real and good Chinese food is hard to beat around campus.
On campus, my favourite place to eat is SCH (South Campus Hall). They only serve lunch and close pretty early (2:30pm I think). But their prices are better than SLC, and they serve roast beef almost everyday.

the phat-cat afgani guy is nuts......even though im one of the few customers he likes and says hi to....he still always stares me down if i walk by without eating there....and he questions who are my friends?
but gyros, philly steak, and the chick souvlaki are very good...at phat-cat
Warrior Pizza is new just open quite good....fills you up...and fairly cheap
Chill and Grill is pricy, but the burgers can not be beat
Pita Factory/Pita Pit are both very good, chicken caesar = delicious
Shandiz...Persian food....Chicken kebab with half rice/half salad fills you up and not that pricy
Dumplings at Mr Paninos.....soooo good....im not asian so ive nevr tried anything else they have
Golden Mango...very very good noodles
Vegetrian place near Chill and Grill....has this chicken dish with noodles and veggies...very good cheap thai food
Avoid Campus Pizza....not the best food...and he keeps raising his stupid prices
