WB/DC Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) origin movie Oct 4 2019 (outside DCEU continuity previously produced by Martin Scorsese)

Seems like it'll stand apart from other DC movies continuity wise akin to the unconnected STV animated films

"This will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters."

"The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy. "

Take that Fox Gotham!

Good concept because it has worked in comics for a very long time.

For the movie going audience that doesn't read comics, it might get confusing fast when they just saw Jared Leto as the Joker.

Both Variety and THR are downplaying Scorsese's involvement as too early to call (which could just be sour grapes they got scooped by competitor Deadline)
Regardless a producing credit can the gamut from ghost directing to a onetime hands off consultation

The movie could be terrible but it wont bomb. Comic book movies are bringing in the money and it has the Joker.

The Gotham version isn't bad. I hope this new movie takes some cues from the TV show.

In a new article, WB moving forward won't be slaves to continuity (this Joker movie being a prime example)

"Let’s rethink that whole universe thing. They’re not giving up on the idea of continuity, but they want to deemphasize the idea that all of these flicks are occupying the same space."

DC Comics being handled by Warner has turned into a mess... they don't want to invest enough money or time (which represents money) in the projects, so the final product is usually garbage or feels incomplete or rushed
