I've seen it for cheaper. Not sure about the quality though. I'd go with QNAP or Synelogy.

For those with a time machine, it was $155 yesterday.

Ya, the thecus is horribly reviewed everywhere and seems to be an absolute "you get what you pay for."

The WD EX2 is decently reviewed and seems like a good option. A lot of professional reviews mention that it is not very fast compared to Qnap and Synology units in the same price range. It is a good option for someone who just wants central nas storage for files etc on their home network.

It can be found at memoryexpress for $169 just about all the time. (They just recently upped to $179)

I beleive the above poster was talking about the Lenovo IX2

http://www.ncix.com/detail/lenovo-emc-i ... -92332.htm

It is an interesting option for $140 with 2 1TB drives, although I'd love to know what type of drives exactly.

edit:

It gets even more interesting: You can get the diskless version for $60 at Mike's
Or get the 2 x 1 TB version for $132.99 plus free shipping.

edit:

It looks like they come with WD green drives or seagate barracuda. This is still very tempting at $150 all in.

better off getting Thecus unit... better firmware better service and quality. I've owned a bunch of units from Thecus and none of them have let me down.

Been eye-balling this for 2 days now... Comes with 2 4TB red drives... The drives alone are 140-200$ each at different retailers. Problem is, it doesn't have Ethernet.

That NAS you suggested in your link only has 2 stars out of 5. :(
I think the IX2 they were mentioning is the 31+ page thread here:
mikes-computer-me-lenovo-storcenter-ix2 ... 666555/31/

IX2 + 2x2TB (4TB Total) for $174.99 + Tax (after using $5 new signup coupon)
