Weight Loss Techniques
Ok. I've doing situps, cruntches and leg raises for couple months everyday but it seems like nothing is happening. Probably i've been doing something wrong. Any one have any good suggestions on what exercise to do to get rid of my waist fat? The fat is like a belt. I have this problem ever since elementary school. I'm not overweight but actually the more skinny type. Since 2-3 years ago, I've become a bit bigger (5 11" , 160 pounds) but then my waist fat is still noticeable (my friend laugh at me for it) and I really want to do something about it now.

cardio.
it is impossible to lose fat at a certain area of the body. you gotta do cardio and lose fat ALL OVER your body.
sit up and crunches wont burn away that fat, itll just strengthen your abs, but they wont show if there is a layer of fat covering them.
also:
either kick his ass and tell him to STFU, or get a new friend.(my friend laugh at me for it)

its genetic probably
if its something you've had all your life it's prolly genetic.
so, you can't do much about it.
but you could try eating a very low fat diet or something?
I've always had a bit of fat around my waist even though I'm really into sports and eat only very healthy stuff.
-even when i tried eating no fat, it didn't change much.
so, if you're really thin, and do alot of activity- only liposuction will help then!_______________

more cardio or less food, diet is most important but no such thing as spot reducing

As mentioned you need cardio, and the one saying aobut genetic and crap. If you work hard, you can get loose that fat at your waist. Get a good cardio program going, plus a healthy diet and strenght training will definetly help too

What the hell, this isn't a genetic issue, I have the same thing (it's called love handles) and it's being going away as I exercise even though I haven't been doing weight loss at all (look up endomorph or ectomorph, love handles while skinny is a characteristic of one of those body types, dont remember which one). You have fat, it's just that your body type carries almost all of it in your midsection rather then spreading it around like other body types. You would have the exact same amount of fat if you were a different body type (legs and arms would be chubbier). The way you carry the fat is simply less appealing as it's all packed in one area rather then spread.
Crunches and situps do squat for fat, it tones muscles, but if it's behind a layer of fat it's not going show. There is no such thing as 'toning fat'. It had to be burned.
Cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio. This is the ONLY way to burn fat. Your calorie intake should also be about 400-500 calorie lower then what you burn through regular daily routine and cardio. I'd suggest signing up to a gym and be dedicated several days a week to go in and workout. Weight lifting should also be a part of your workout as cardio also burns muscle when done for lengthy times, lifting will counteract some of that effect. If you did work out your stomach as much as you said you have, you may come out of your cardio routine after a few weeks and see toned abs was hidden behind the fat. You can then laugh at your friends as they show a weak stomach area.Last edited by Firebot; Feb 2nd, 2006 at 08:15 AM.

Feb 2nd, 2006 08:30 AM #12It's genetic only in the sense in how your body works and develops. He would have the exact same amount of fat wether he had it in the waist or not. My comment was more in response to this:

Yeah, I agree with the Cardio part to burn off the fat, you also have to watch your diet too. Cut back on the Coke, salt or sugar and eat a lot of greens and low fat foods and drink water. The fruit juices in the supermarket actually contain quite a bit of sugar so they're not as healthy as everyone thinks. If you combine all these, you should see some results.

Stop drinking coke and juice. Stick to water.
Don't eat late at night. I don't care if it's only a piece of toast, if it's within 4-5 hours of you going to sleep, don't eat (unless you're going to get exercise before you go to bed).
Don't eat really large meals. When you eat large meals, a lot of it gets stored as fat, because you're body can't break it down properly.
Don't go a long time between meals. When you do that, you're body prepares itself for the long haul and starts breaking down your food and stores it as fat. Believe it or not, starving yourself will result in more fat (at first anyway, although eventually you'll lose a lot of weight, but do NOT do it this way!).
Do a lot of cardio and if possible, hit the weights. The more muscle you have on your body, the more fat you'll burn. The amount of muscle you have has a direct correlation to your BMR. So more muscle = more fat burned at a quicker rate.
Cardio is more important than weights.
A proper diet is more important than anything else_______________

very very well said.
sleepyguys notes...
- balanced diet... 5-6 small meals and no late night meals
- cardio 4-5 times/week... 45-1hr sessions at optimal heart rate
- weight train 3-4 times/week
you'll notice reductions within a month or 2.
