Were there any television shows that didn't overstay their welcome?

heroes was cancelled  assuming we're talking about the same one.
And it wasn't good the whole way through. Only Season 1 was good.

To be fair, the writer's strike was likely the cause of that.

i really wish they had some ending to it though. i was one of the few who didn't really mind all the plot holes and just wanted to see the whole show through to the end.. too bad.

I disagree with a few here... Sopranos and Lost were not good all the way through. And Deadwood... I could barely get through the 1st season.

I do agree with the Wire, Breaking Bad, would also add The Shield and Oz to that list.

The Wire ( the last season was a little slow, however i always thought they could of done another city based around the same idea like Chicago, Oakland or New York ).

Victoria
Firefly
Rome
Carnivale
Battlestar
Lost (I know I'll get argued to the end on this one, but I always thought its 2nd season was the weakest, so it kept getting better in the following seasons again. I enjoyed it right until the end).
Star Trek TNG
Star Trek Ds9
Breaking Bad (I can't imagine 8 more episodes would make me change my mind)
The Wire

Absolutely. Great from start to finish. Four seasons + a couple movies were enough to tell a strong story with very few "filler" episodes.
