Western University (UWO) BMOS Program...

Alright, this may be a little broad. But tell me all you can about this program. How hard is it? Good compared to other business programs? Chances of getting into Ivey after 2nd year? and what marks do you need to be accepted into the program in the first place??? thanks alot in advance.

For the love of god, if you don't get into AEO, don't count on into getting into ivey later.

First of all.... why not??? im going into grade 12 next year and i got 87% in grade 11. I know thats not enough to get ivey AEO, and i dont think ill be able to get over 90 next year. But ive heard that aslong as you have around 77% in 2nd year western that your more than likely going to get accepted into ivey. I think thats a realistic goal presonally. And i looked at the admissions facts from last year and it shows that out of the 550 people that applied to ivey after 2nd year uni...375 were accepted. thats a pretty good percentage right there. So im just wondering your opinion on the situation. Why should i not count on it, i figure aslong as I work hard and do a few EC's, then i have a pretty good shot of getting into Ivey. but thats just my opinion. Would love to hear yours.

Ask yourself: Are you a cutthroat-business type of person with great people skills? Are you willing to lose friends to get a deal? Do you read the financial section instead of comics? If you answered yes, then you're AOK for Ivey. If not, you're going to have a rough time.

I had AEO when I went to Western. Realised I don't fit the Ivey profile so I'm gonna bum my way through second year and transfer probably to UT for third year.

It's a good program, and definetly worth the 20 grand a year tuition (you'll make it all back within a year and you're basically guaranteed a job once you grad). It's not the end of the world if you dont get in but if you dont get AEO, dont go into BMOS and aim for ivey since the BMOS program isnt the best in the world, go into engineering or science and you can still apply, better yet go to UofT for commerce and aim for a transfer, that way if it doesnt work out you still graduate with a decent degree.

I was in bmos (formerly bacs) for the past two years and just got into hba without aeo status but alot of people didnt make the cut. If you're lazy in highschool and pullin a low or mid 80 then you have a decent chance to get in if you organize your time well, however if you're working your ass off in highschool just to pull a high 80 maybe a 90 out the door in gr12, you may find your marks plummet once you go to univ as it is very different, not neccesarily harder but the transition can be tough if you're not prepared.

All i can say is have a backup plan, if i could have done everything over again I would have worked harder in highschool to get aeo or maybe queens commerce. If you've already accepted your bmos offer and dont have aeo status try to get good grades first year and do a double major or minor in something else just to differentiate yourself as bmos is a HUGE program and without something special you're just another number to employers.

You need to ask yourself if you would REALLY be happy with a BMOS. You need to remember that a 77% in university is not the same as 77% in high school. Things are significantly tougher when the total idiots have been weeded out.

Remember, 375 out of 550 people is only 68.2%

I don't know about you but I would not bet my future on odds like that. With an 87, you could likely get into UTSG Commerce. Just go into that and try to jump to Ivey instead of risking your time/money. If you get in, great. If you don't, UTSG Commerce is still a pretty good program.

I admittedly don't know anything about this conversation, but the above statistic looks misleading IMO.

I would have to assume that students who don't have the marks in 1st and 2nd year don't even bother applying. Hence I would think that most of those 550 students quoted are the subset who had a strong chance of acceptance, and yet even all of them weren't accepted. I bet the percentage would be much lower if it was the percentage of students accepted who entered UWO with intentions of switching.

you need 70% bare minimum to even be considered, an 80% is almost required along with good extracurriculars (this is the requirement AEOs must meet), furthermore i'm not sure as to whether that 550 number is total number of applicants or total number of non pre accepted applicants, on average 200 people of each 375 would be former aeos (pre accepted). Bottom line is if you want to get in with 70-77 you must be heavily involved in clubs, volunteer activities, at work, show tremendous leadership capabilities, etc.

they have 4 sections of 75 people each and if the caliber of applicants isn't as high as their standards they wont fill all 375 spots.

Unless you're a bottom of the barrel student it isn't impossible to get into the HBA program but you have to set your priorities and stick to it, something much easier said than done.

it doesnt matter if there are 376 people applying or 10,000 people applying, just make sure you're in the top 375

For BMOS out of HS you should need around 83% (at least thats what it was when I got in).

With BMOS, there are a few designations; Finance, HR, International Business. You can also do double majors, major and a minor, etc.

For Ivey, you'll need high 70's at least to be considered. Along with a good average, you'll need a good amount of volunteer work or if you have entrepreneurial experience, that's a bonus as well.

I have plenty of friends who just graduated from Ivey and all of them have jobs now.

I realize this is a pretty old thread but I've been looking into the BMOS program and have some questions for you.
As I understand it you need grade 12 math and grade 12 calculus for addmission, is this correct? Is there a minimum mark needed in these math courses? Also what year did you apply in?

I don't think there's a minimum mark needed, but having one of those in the 60's won't be good. As for overall averages, the cut-off last year I heard was an 85.

I personally am in first year in the BMOS program and got in with a 87% average. 91 in Calc (redid in night school, first time 80), and 82 in Data.
