What 4 cyl. Japanese car should I buy?
I'm looking at some JDM 4cylinder turbo AWD big spoiler action. Should I get the Evo I or the WRX?
Evo:
Good:
Rare
Evo! Chicks love the 4G63!
Little more power than the WRX
Bad:
Rare
Unreliable, since the owners drive like *******s.
Lancers of that generation were not sold in North America, so parts could be hard to get
Expensive
WRX:
Good:
Cheaper
More reliable
Parts easier to get
More made, so easier to find
Chicks love the Intercooler water spray! (At least, I'm pretty sure the WRX had those)
Bad:
More made, so looks like every other WRX on the street.
Little less power in stock form.
Subaru = Lesbian
So, which one will it be?

No, I'm serious. My mechanic has both, (well, the WRX has a cage and the Evo is waiting for a new engine) I'm going to give both a spin in a bit here before either taking one of his, or importing one before the 15 year rule changes.
Not really much interest in this thread eh? I guess RFD motor vehicles is really just dominated by V8 muscleheads and W-body afficiandos.

Eh? Scrape together $10k and you can get a GTO right now, I don't know why you or anyone WOULD, but there you go.
As for the 15 yr rule,
http://www.ivoac.ca/pn/
I'm guessing it's going to be extended to 25 years fairly soon - something like 50k Japanese were vehicles imported last year, together with the US competition, the west coast dealers are really turning up the heat on the politicians.

Nah, the last gen GTO was on the inadmissable list... Have to wait 15 years, or maybe 25
Also I don't think you could get a LS2-equipped GTO in good condition for as little as $10k... They aren't all that expensive, no, but $10k?
Edit: A search on AutoTrader.com for GTOs within 500miles of Niagara Falls NY shows that the cheapest 2005 GTO is around $26k. Most are more around $30k; and most 2006s are in the low $30k range as well. There are some 2004s (with LS1 motors) as low as $18k but most are more in the $23k-25k range. So much for a $10k GTO...
If GM releases a new GTO on Zeta then it'll most likely be Canada-friendly though. They already have the Camaro and G8 coming, but it seems there might be either a Firebird/TA or GTO released as well...
That's ******** they want to change it to 25 years. I mean are 15 year old cars really that much in demand that it takes away from the domestic vehicle market? I know brand new cars from the US are desireable for the savings but 15 year old cars?
Are there cars from Japan that can be imported before 15 years? Or are all those 50,000 JDM cars 15 years+ old?Last edited by ES_Revenge; Sep 22nd, 2007 at 08:29 PM.

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant the Mitsubishi GTO. Seeing as how we're talking about Japanese cars and all. What does that matter anyway? The G8 will come to Canada, the GM plant in Oshawa is gearing up to build all manner of RWD V8 awesomeness assuming GM hasn't gone kaput by then.
Or are all those 50,000 JDM cars 15 years+ old?
Yes. You wouldn't notice them very much because the vast majority of them are not Skylines but turbodiesel Land Cruisers and Pajeros - There are a lot of people with uses for a torquey, fuel efficient turbo diesel I6 truck that no one in North America wants to sell. Most of the people on that site whining are SUV drivers out in the west coast boonies.
EDIT: Now that I am no longer on crack, I think the actual figure is something like 76k Japanese imports in the last 4 or 5 years.Last edited by KawaiiTentacleBeast; Sep 22nd, 2007 at 08:49 PM.
