Do you need to all that room? If not, I'd suggest getting an SSD to speed it up. As for HDD I prefer WDs

SSD, or if you want a HDD my personal experience with laptop drives is Hitachi last the longest, followed by WD. Haven't had good luck Seagate, and Toshiba has been especially bad. However, that's just from my sample of ~15 drives, and honestly hard drives are all pretty good, yet all of them are going to fail eventually...take care of your laptop, have backups and get whatever's cheapest (usually tends to be WD).

I bought a 512gb samsung pro ssd and its beautiful. Boots up in a few seconds and runs everything instantly really, just needs to wait for ram loads, but still much faster than the regular old disk based hard drives.

If u dont eed that much space, grab a cheaper one with less storage. Itll have the same speed impact.

All brands are the same.

Conventional drives of 1GB and less are supposed to be more reliable than bigger ones. SSD is the best in terms of speed but expensive. Hybrid drives (eg Momentus XT) are supposed to be good but I have no personal experience of them.

Get the best SSD that is a good price. It will be faster and lighter than your HDD. It's more expensive but if worried about storage, get a HDD and put it in an enclosure and connect it via USB.

I doubt it has a 6gbps HDD port, so a 240gb PNY SSD for 120$ is my vote. I wouldn't overspend on it as you likely will be bottlenecked.

I agree with the rest of the people that said slap on an SSD! I recommend a Samsung 840 series. You will notice the boot up speed of your programs!

got my mom an ssd, coz she always drops her lappies and rendered conventional hhd unusable.
