What is the difference between a legacy wagon and an Outback wagon?

Can someone help me understand the difference between the Legacy and Outback? I'm talking about the 'lowest trim' the 2.5 I guess, the 4cyl wagon model.

I was reading the brochures online for both of them, and I can't figure out what the difference is, they both seem to have the same options, they are both exactly the same size - the only difference was that the legacy started at 28,8 and the outback started at 32.9 - what am I missing here?

What does the outback give that the legacy doesn't?

Thanks for your help...

outback has a raised suspension & body cladding. gives it more of the off-road look.

Oh - kinda like the difference between the Volvo V70 and the XC70?

Doesn't really seem worth the money... Granted I've never sat in either car...

Huge difference in terms of driving feel. The Outback's raised suspension is mushy and exhibit a lot of nosedive under braking. The Legacy suspension feels button down like a German sedan.

one review I read basically said it's really hard to justify the difference in price unless you really need offroading.

The Impreza Outback (Outback Sport) is simply an Impreza with an Outback trim package. There is a big difference between the Impreza Outback and an Outback.

oh, the impreza outback is different from a outback. usually "outback" is refering to the big legacy outback.

Well - I test drove a volvo s60 this weekend - and I was really impressed.

I'm going to try a legacy next, but I can't imagine that it will compare to the Volvo...

The Legacy drives better than the S60. But the Volvo has the better engines, and of course the better seat and ergonomics.

Don't forget, the Volvo is better at needing more repairs, costing more to repair, and having more expensive maintenance.

Also, the AWD system is better on the Subaru.

Isn't the V70 a FWD and the XC70 an AWD?
